While Wesley Korir, former University of Louisville cross country All-American, won the Derby Festival miniMarathon in 1:05:18; Kenyan marathon runner Hilary Lelei won the marathon in in 2:21:31, while Charles Kiplagat was second in 2:22:50 and Birhanu Wukaw third in 2:28:32. In the women's race Nadezhda Tuptova won the marathon in 2:48:02 and Larisa Mikhaylova was runner-up just 15 seconds behind. Debbie Arzola came in third with a 2:56:13.

Organizers for this year's Kentuky Derby Marathon had to re-map their route due to the Cherokee Triangle Art Fair that happens at the same time and place. Traffic was a disaster last year, so this year organizers changed the route to go down different streets, and it was much more simple a task than they thought it would be. The race takes place during the weekend of the Kentuky Derby in the springtime, when folks really just want to be able to enjoy themselves without the sound of traffic.

For the third year in a row, a Kenyan man has won the Country Music Marathon in Nashville, TN. Jackson Chebet won in 2:18:59. James Mutuse of Richmond won Saturday's Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon in 2:20:03, giving him a Triple Crown road racing victory the spring. The same was true for the first place women's finisher, Christina Wells of Owensboro, who finished in 2:45:25; and Chad Johnson of Palmyra, Ind., who took the wheelchair division in the mini-marathon.
