Ryan Donovan won the Colorado Marathon for the third time despite race officials missing his finish. His time of 2 hours 29 minutes and 36 seconds seemed to slip past officials at the line.

Colorado Marathon Voted State's Best

According to an online survey by Colorado Runner Magazine, the Colorado Marathon, which runs along Poudre Canyon, was voted the state's best marathon. More than twelve-hundred runners participated in the marathon last year.

Scott repeats as men's champ; Gil wins second women's title at Colorado Marathon

Defending champion Brian Scott ran solo for nearly the entire race to win the 2008 Colorado Marathon in a personal best of 2:31:33. Mercedes Gil won the women's race for a second time in a 3:01:01, nearly five minutes ahead of runner-up Sara Kadlec who finished in 3:05:53.

An inside look at the Colorado Marathon

The Colorado Marathon on May 4, 2008 was started by Fort Collins running buddies Jon Sinclair and Steve Cathcart and draws more than 2,500 participants. Modeled after the St. George Marathon in Utah, the race organizers have set a fast scenic course in Poudre Canyon in fort Collins, Colorado. The race barely makes money, but any proceeds go to the Northern Colorado Running Foundation, which is a running advocate organization.

Last years Colorado Marathon drew 42 states and 6 countries. Fort Collins has been rated by Runner's Magazine as one of the top 25 running communities in the nation. The marathon will start in Poudre Canyon, and drop 1,200 feet as it passes through Laporte and along the river to finish in the center of downtown Fort Collins.

Colorado Marathon: Pair's last-minute decisions result in first-place finishes

Kelly and Steve Krebs each decided, at the last minute, to run the Colorado Marathon as a training run - neither intending to win, but both very happy that they did. Krebs, who had run the Boulder Backroads Marathon three weeks before was and is planning to run the following week in Denver's Mile High Marathon, while Moon is preparing for the New York City Marathon in three weeks.
