Springfield Marathon set for Fall Start

Lifestyle change leads to Springfield Marathon win

Karl Gilpin won Saturday's Springfield Marathon in 2:34:42. The 23-year-old last May decided to change his lifestyle of partying and late nights and return to the running glory he enjoyed in college - spurred on in part the impending birth of his son. He quit smoking and lost 25 pounds.

Wegenka wins third straight Springfield Second Baptist Marathon

Springfields Matt Wegenka won Saturday's Springfield Second Baptist Marathon for a third straight year, zipping through course in 2:30:27 and taking home a $1,000 purse. His time bettered last year's by about two minutes, but was still off his '99 time of 2:27.
Miho Ichikawa of Kyoto, Japan, set a new course record for the women with her 2:43:53 finish, which was fourth overall.
