Fall marathon ends its run in Kansas City(Kansas City Star) After a 22-year run the Rib Run Marathon in Kansas City has been canceled due to a lack of a sponsor. The Ocotober race had long suffered from numerous problems - declining participation, lack of community support, a dreary route - and the loss of the power company as sponsor was the last straw.
Organizers, however, hope to keep at least at 10K alive until a new marathon can be organized

Rain, pain don't faze Kansas City Rib Run competitors(Kansas City Star) Nate Stroot won the Kansas City Rib Run in a time of 2:38:36 only three weeks after placing third in the St. Louis Marathon. Defending champion Phil Hudnall took second place as cramping in his legs forced him to walk at mile 24 and beyond. Carol Baker won the women's race in a time of 3:12:54 and was also the first women's masters runner.
