There's another distance race in northern California that locals seem to have forgoten about. The Sacramento Marathon, held on the first Sunday in October, was once the area's biggest event. New race organizer's hope to bring it back to prominence.

Sacramento Marathon is small but sweet

Sunday, approximately 250 runners will line up at William Land Park for the 24th Sacramento Marathon, a prime local example of a small marathon. The event does not feature prize money, television coverage or many cheering spectators beyond the friends and family of the runners.
