   USATF Grants Wausau Native Spot in 2012 Olympic Trials Marathon (Wasau Daily Herald)
Sarah Flament has officially qualified for the 2012 Olympic Marathon Trials. The governing body, USATF, granted Flament an appeal for her "gun" time of 2 hours 46 minutes and 1 second. They honored her chip time which was just under the qualifying time of 2 hours and 46 minutes.

   DE REUCK IS UPSET WINNER OF U.S. TRIALS MARATHON (Race Results Weekly)
Colleen De Reuck won the 2004 US Olympic Trials Marathon in a course record of 2:28:25. The former South African who gained her US Citizenship just two years ago, will head to the Olympics to represent her new country. Deena Kastor, pre-race favorite and holder of the American marathon record was passed in the last mile and finished second in 2:29:36. Jen Rhines finished third in a personal best of 2:29:56 and will be the third on the olympic squad. Blake Russell, running in just her second marathon, built a lead of more than a minute by the 10K point, was passed at mile 18 by Kastor, mile 20 by De Reuck and mile 25-1/2 by Rhines, still finished fourth in a personal best of 2:30:32.

Running isn't a popular sport in Anchorage Alaska - and no one was as surprised that a runner from that northern clime would win the Olympic Trials as the winner herself.

Christine Clark, seeded 22nd out of 171 runners was the surprise winner in the US Womens Olympic Marathon Trial. Earning her a trip to Sydney that she wasn't planning to make.

The Confederate Flag is causing controversy for those whose athletic events are scheduled for South Carolina, including the Women's Marathon Trials. Those who support the flag, which has flown over the Statehouse since 1962, say it honors Southern heritage. Opponents say it is a symbol of racism and slavery.
