Simon Sawe, a US-based Kenyan, won the CLICO Trinidad and Tobago Marathon by 1:05 on Sunday, finishing ahead of Trinidadian Ronnie Hollassie. Mary Akor, another Kenyan living in the U.S., won the women's race easily, with a time of 2:46:47. Monica Muthoni, also of Kenya, took second.

Winner of the 2008 Trinidad and Tobago Marathon Caroline Chemwold of Kenya remains troubled by her native country Kenya's continued political unrest. Chemwold believes that key leaders can bring peace to Kenya if they listen to each other, accept their problems and come up with solutions. It's an additional difficulty as Chemworld is required to leave her two young daughters and her husband for more than four months to provide a comfortable income for her family.

In his attempt to regain his title at the Trinidad and Tobago Marathon, Curtis Cox ran a winning time of 32 minutes, 29 seconds in his latest ten kilometer race. In 2005 Cox had finally secured a win in the gruelling 26.2-mile marathon run, clocking two hours, 24 minutes, 21 seconds, to defeat Venezuela’s Jefferson Davis and the seven-time champion Pamenos Ballantyne.

Pamenose Ballantyne finished the Trinidad and Tobago Marathon in 2 hours, 15 minutes, 30 seconds, winning the race for the sixth time. His timing this year was just enough to break the record he set in 1998 by seven seconds. Denmark's Gitte Karlshoj won the women's race in 2:43.17, also resetting course record.

In 2002 John Muriuki of Nairobi, Kenya won the Trinidad Marathon in 2:19:23. The record however, was set at 2:15.37 by Pamenos Ballantyne in 1998. This year Muriuki hopes to change that. He has been training hard for the race scheduled for January 26th.
