fantastic race. this was my 8th marathon and 1st one in tallahassee. i was looking for ideal temps and a flat course to try to run a boston qualifying marathon. this race fit that bill perfectly. the organizers were great communicators and nearly every aspect of the actual experience met my expectations. tallahassee is a hilly town, but this course is on a beautiful, flat asphalt paved trail. it was the 41st running- for a reason- it's a great marathon! highly recommended- and I've done disney, grandma's, jacksonville, and clearwater before. it will serve the beginner and the one looking to BQ very well.

Thanks guys!
This was our first time to run your race and I want to tell you we were very impressed with the information emails leading up to the race, beautiful course and well done post race event.
We came to qualify for Boston 2016 and think we hit it so your race will always be a very special memory for our gang!
Please let all the volunteers and track club members know how much we appreciated your efforts.
Well done!

LOVE the shirt and medal. Groundhogs on groundhog's weekend. Awesome!

The course is flat and the spectators enthusiastic. This is a perfect course for a personal record. I have run it the last two years for my groundhog's day birthday present to myself.

I love this marathon! We'll run, great time of the year and quiet, rustic course. Plenty of hotel options close to start, easy parking and warm waiting area (Tully Gym). Plenty to eat at finish and post race massage! Flat and fast course, perfect for a BQ!

Volunteers and organizers do a great job with this race. It is very flat and you could PR if you aren't bored to tears with the course. Fans are great at the few spots they are on the course. I ran this race to support my local races but slower runners like myself may want a bigger city race.

"My hometown race, and I really try to love it..." (about: 2014)

I'm a Tallahassee resident and the 2011 Tallahassee marathon was my first full, so I really try to love this race, but the course and disappointing swag ruin it for me.

The course: is great if a PR is all you're looking to get out of the event. Flat, fast, out and back. If you're looking for a scenic race that shows you the sights of the city, and if you place a priority on spectators then this race isn't for you. My biggest beef is that the course showcases the least appealing parts of Tallahassee (aside from the start and finish on FSU's campus). You spend the first five miles of the course on the Southside of town, traveling on a bike path that takes you past Section 8 complexes and some rather undesirable neighborhoods. When you pick up the Saint Marks trailhead you spend miles 8-18 running by trailer parks and run down houses. On top of the scenery being subpar the course is incredibly boring. Tallahassee is the Capital City and is littered with touches of Southern Charm. Knowing the city as I do- they could do much, much better with the course.

The medal is a dinky little thing, on a boring ribbon, that always features a groundhog. The shirt this year (2014), had a full-body image of a groundhog placed oddly in the middle of my left rib. Like the course, the swag could be much, much better.

Major room for improvement.

"Loved doing this marathon! Many great attributes!" (about: 2014)

I agree with all previous positive comments listed. From the email info in advance (very helpful) to the post race food and awards - it was all top notch. My only comment is an experienced marathoner would need to know the only course clocks are at the start, half way point, and finish. If you want a time anywhere else, you should be prepared to time it yourself. I wish I had known this earlier since I didn't set my watch to show the 'seconds', and to reach my goal, that was important.

"Good and Fast" (about: 2014)

This was my 30th marathon and my 1st in Tallahassee. The weather may have been a tad humid, but the temps stayed in the upper 50's with cloud cover much of the morning to make for a very comfortable race.

The race was well organized except for the mix up at the award ceremony, which could have been avoided. It would be great if there were a couple more time clocks on the course. The course support was great, with plenty of water, Gatorade and GU. Not very many spectators, but I did not expect many either. I did enjoy finishing on the FSU track, great feeling after pounding 26 miles on the trail and road.

The spread at the finish line was fine, but you really should replace the apples with bananas. And the little kids need to be restrained from taking post race food/snacks that are there for the runners.

"GREAT JOB BY GWTC!" (about: 2014)

Most marathons organized by track clubs are well done and this one is no exception. GWTC did a fine job. Runners know what other runners want and need.
The pros:
1. Great green tech shirt with groundhog and simple front design
2. Excellent mile markers
3. GU at every aid station
4. Friendly volunteers and fans (five stars for quality, not quantity)
5. Out and back route; you always know what the return offers
6. Age awards were pottery mugs crafted by local artisan. Exquisite! Thanks to Brian B.!!
7. Chance to hear Bart Yasso from RW
8. Finish on soft FSU track - my feet appreciated that after 26.2

Cons:
None, really.
Suggestions: Have a few porta potties inside the stadium, near the finish line

Congrats again to the Gulf Winds Track Club for a runner-friendly marathon.

What GREAT race. This was my 3rd half I have run and got under 2 hours for the first time! Very exciting for me. I'm telling all my friends to book this marathon/half for next year. Flat, fast and fun. It was well organized, with plenty of parking and well marked route. Loved ending on the FSU track... what a great finish. Oh, I'm very grateful for all the water stops with plenty of water, Gatorade and Gu!
