"A very good small marathon" (about: 2012)

The course is fairly flat and scenic. All of the necessary elements were in place with water stations and traffic control. You won't find huge crowds of spectators but this is a small marathon and that isn't expected. For a smaller marathon there were nice touches with an expo, movie screening and expert runners giving short talks. Great job Tallahassee! (that's hard to say as a Gator!)

"Great first marathon" (about: 2012)

This was my first marathon (I'm a local), and it's a great marathon if you're looking at your first one. The course is nice and flat (it's one of the best ones at which to qualify for Boston), and there are aid stations every two miles. It amazed me how many spectators there were, there seemed to be 3-4 people every mile or so, even on the more secluded portions of the course. Because of this, and the many police officers directing traffic, it's impossible to get lost.

It's nice that it's an out-and-back course, because you get to see so many people. As for competition, it's first-rate, the woman who won the woman's division ran in the Olympic Time Trials, and you're lucky to be in the top 10% even if you run a 3:20! So you get the small-town race feel, with big-time competition!

As constructive criticism, the aid stations could have been spread out exactly where they said they would be, and the food at the end of the race could have been better. The Gatorade was really low for the marathoners who came in, and there was mostly just bagels and pizza for them, too. All in all, though, a great race!

"Flat course, but not very scenic" (about: 2012)

I ran the full in 2011 and 2012 and the half in 2010. Although this event can't be beat in terms of price, support, organization, and enthusiasm of volunteers, I'd love to see a different course or at least more spectators. As a resident of Tallahassee, I'm of the opinion that this course doesn't show the most beautiful parts of our town. The course is basically an out-and-back on a paved bike trail. Since there is a deep tradition with this race and the course will likely not be changed, it would be great to see the race directors encourage more spectators on the St. Marks Trail and the connector trail since there are very few. Again, the volunteers, the organization, and the support are great.

I ran the half and it was my first long race of my career. It was the perfect course, flat and fast. Spectators and volunteers everywhere cheering you on, giving you water/gatorade/Gu and telling you where to go. Couldn't have asked for a better first!

"Awesome Water Stops" (about: 2012)

2 previous marathons | 1 Tallahassee Marathon
COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 5

I was scheduled to run a 22 mile long run as my last long run for my target spring race, and I saw that the Tallahassee marathon was the same weekend. What would an extra four miles hurt? I didn't have the best performance, but the race was such a pleasure. I have never seen such nice water stops, and great volunteers. It was nice having real food- especially with not feeling well in the heat. Every volunteer I saw had encouraging words for me, as well as my fellow runners. The entire event was great, and the medal is super cute. I loved ending on the track.

My only complaint was the lack of post-race food especially for a slower marathon runner. With the heat all I wanted was something at the end. All I found was some hard bagels, and cream cheese that was sitting out for a several hours. I ran the Ocala 1/2 a couple weeks ago, and that was one awesome post race spread. If Tallahassee had someting similar it would be out of this world.

"Awesome staff; great race" (about: 2012)

This was a very well organized race. The staff did a great job on giving direction which led to little confusion. Additionally I lost my ID during the run and they quickly got it back to me. Thanks

"Good race but..." (about: 2012)

4-5 previous marathons | 1 Tallahassee Marathon

This is a good race to do, however, make sure your host hotel will allow for a late checkout. This made for an uncomfortable 8 hour ride home without a shower. Post food was pretty bad. Hard bagels were all I can remember. Would suggest to race directors to get a host hotel that treats the racers with more respect. We were told that if we ran fast enough that we could shower but that we would have to pay for another night if we wanted a late checkout.

"A well organized race on a beatiful course" (about: 2011)

A well organized and enjoyable experience that makes me wonder why I run the mega marathons. Most of the course is the St. Marks Trail bike path of which a good part is a tunnel through the trees. A nice experience at a beautiful time of year in north Florida.

"Great small marathon!!!" (about: 2012)

Wow! Race organizers did a GREAT JOB!!!
Tallahassee is an amazingly well run and well supported marathon!!!! You guys rock!!! The course is wonderful. I really like the out and back because I got to see so many people. The water stops were wonderful - it's great to have real food at some stops and nice potties! The folks working the aid stations were terrific. Lots of race support at intersections. Nice flat course, which is good for us flatlanders from Panama City.
I cannot say enough good things about your race! I'm going to tell everyone I see to come do it next year!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
:)

"A Good Small Race" (about: 2012)

This is a well organized small marathon. The course is simple and flat. Parking, start, finish and awards ceremony are all convenient. The race is a good value for runners. It is nice to see an old time race that that gives cash prizes to the best runners. If you are looking for a lot of hoopla or a high priced destination race; look elsewhere.
