For an inaugural run, the 2016 Joplin Marathon was fantastic. The course is a little challenging with various rolling hills throughout (but nothing too severe). Early start (6:30 with an option for a 4:30 start for runners who needed more time) helped with potential heat later in the day. The course parallels the half marathon for the first 10 miles so watch your speed in the beginning! The course then throws in a 13-mile loop before rejoining the halfers for the last three miles. Everybody was supporting each other - cheering for the halfers when they turn off & the marathoners go out and then cheering for each other again when the courses merge. Course support was great, even in some of the more remote spots around 18 - 20.
