"Good for inaugural. A few issues." (about: 2015)

The full marathon was very small (215 finishers) but well staffed for the most part. Start was well organized, plenty of parking, plenty of portapotties, coffee and water for the runners. I had a few problems finding the start but that was because I was unfamiliar with the freeways. Allow time to get there as one always should for a race.

The aid stations were well equipped for the most part, I didn't need cake or Nutella but I'm sure some people enjoyed them. Needed electrolyte beverage at the turnaround.

Course was nice. Flat, fast, well marked, no issues with traffic. My main complaint about the course was the last mile. That section paved with railroad ties was awful. Splintery, uneven, very difficult to run on, and lined with tourists. SMOKING tourists. The last thing I want at mile 25.5 is a few lungfuls of cigarette smoke. But the bike paths were easy to run on and the first portion, through city streets, was fairly smooth and uneventful.

I saw two Blerches on the course, not sure if they were supposed to be chasing runners or not. I felt the couches were a bit gimmicky.

Most important issue, and the race responded quickly to my query with an explanation, was the complete lack of porta-potties on the course. We were all expecting them at the aid stations and there were none. Downtown Sacramento on a Saturday morning has very few businesses open and few places to do your business. Apparently all the portapots were delivered to the start/finish and should have been trucked to the aid station sites by the race personnel, but the truck was too small to transport the toilets so there were none on the course, the bike path section had a couple of parks department installations along the route and the park at mile 23 had bathrooms. I would recommend the portapotties be delivered directly to the aid station sites the night before and locked if necessary. At least they'd be there and the aid station captain could be entrusted with the key to unlock them.

Plenty of volunteers, nice shirt. Not sure where the Mile 10 aid station was on the way out but it was staffed by the time I came back through.

All in all a fairly good marathon and I may do it again.

"This one is a keeper!!" (about: 2015)

A well done race with all the elements you look for in a marathon experience, unless you want cheering crowds. The course was awesome and the aid stations were well manned and equipped. I especially liked the fact that I was able to park in the HUGE parking lot and walk right up to the port-a-potty without having to wait in line & that doesn't happen often!! There was an abundance of Police on the course so I always felt safe and protected. The finish was inside the stadium and your picture as you crossed the finish line was broadcast on a huge screen. One of the best parts of the finish was the abundance of chairs and seating to watch the other finishers & there have been few races that I have run where there was a decent place to sit after finishing the race. My only complaint stems from getting out of the parking lot after the race but that is not on the race, it's on the venue. Overall this one is a fast course and a great organization.
