"Marathon excellent organized!" (about: 2019)

I have run this marathon 5 times and I have a total of 750 full marathons and I would rate this marathon among the best for the organization, 2 mile paved loop, and many free amenities including free massages, free pizza, plenty of water and stacked aid station, full goody bag and a large distinctive medal. The race director was in complete control of the race and was one the best directors I have encountered. I gave the course 4 stars because it has some small hills. I recommend this marathon for anyone especially if you are attempting your first marathon.

"Great small race with much support from volunteers" (about: 2018)

First Marathon
COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 5

The race course was nice to have the same loop to find consistency in your pace. The supporters were consistently cheering us on and making us feel like we had their genuine support. The one bummer was that only the top 3 finishers medalled. I am a women and was very pleased to be the first woman across the finish line but 4 other men beat me so I didn't medal. This was my fastest 1/2 marathon. Now I have a new PR to beat!

Nice small marathon. Done twice and doing it again. Fantastic volunteers cheer you on . Mr Marathon Gene is a pleasure to see on the course as he works his way to marathon 800.

Top Ten Reasons to Run the Oh Boy

10) To potentially finagle a side trip to New York City

9) To meet Eugene DeFronzo (the race founder, lawyer and runner) - as his ads say, "when he's not trying cases, he's running races." And Oh Boy, does he ever! The 2017 race was his 700th marathon.

8) To help Mr. DeFronzo from getting lost on the course - he has a notoriously bad sense of direction!

7) To be cheered by Ivelisse - the race director who is passionate about the race and its runners. She'll give you a loud "WooHoo" cheer on every one of your laps.

6) To be moved by the 14 y.o. violinist playing pre-race National Anthem

5) To decode the on-line course map. It could be used as a puzzle for Mensa membership. In person it's not as complicated as it may seem

4) To be prayed for by Ivelisse's friend before the race start - there was a 100% chance of rain, he prayed for no rain and at most we had a few minutes of a very light drizzle!

3) To learn why it is called the "Oh Boy" marathon

2) For your family and friends - they can park themselves for the entire race in only one spot and see you 26 times!

1) To meet runners who are most likely even crazier than you - e.g. 50 states x 10!!

"Nice small town race" (about: 2016)

I normally hate short-loop marathons (boring) but the course was located in a very pretty park with a limited number of runners (100-130??). Parts were on sidewalk-width paved paths which left little room to pass and so would restrict the number of runners from getting much greater. Start area was near a covered pavilion was a great sanctuary from the rains prior to the start. There was gatorade at each end of the 2 mi. loop so effectively good hydration every mile. A number of hills but not of great extent. No spectators at all, partially due to rain at the beginning, but also location in the park vs. through town. Pizza at the end of the marathon which was surprising as usually this is gone after the half runners are done. The lack of spectators was mitigated by the camaraderie of the runners as the passed each other or ran together. Overall a nice event.
