S. from Houston, Tx (5/4/2019) "Flat and fast course" (about: 2019) 11-50 previous marathons \| 1 Blooms to Brews Marathon COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This course isn't just 'race director flat' but actually 'pancake flat' as it circumnavigates a lake located about 30 minutes north of Portland. Yes, it's small so any out-of-towners won't be able to purchase gels at the expo (there really aren't any vendors with wares). The price was right and the post-race party really is very festive, with beer, food, coffee, a live band, and assorted beauty pageant winners. Female finishers even receive a tiara this year, as it marked the race's fifth anniversary. I gave the Spectators category a '3' but, in reality, there were practically none except the on-course photographers (free photo downloads!).

The course is flat and scenic. They offer really nice tank tops as finisher's shirt which is real nice. Perfect temperature for running and the post party is super fun

G. from Richmond, Va (4/12/2017) "Great rural marathon" (about: 2017) 11-50 previous marathons \| 1 Blooms to Brews Marathon COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 2 What this marathon is NOT: Urban Crowded Bands Hoards of spectators Bib mammoth expo with lots of swag to buy What is marathon IS: Small Rural Great scenery Well organized A group that I run marathons with have gotten to the place in our life that we love to run small marathons. This race was perfect for us. It is small but with the race also having a relay and a half it does not have the feel of running alone all the time. Some of the time when you have multiple races, you feel lost as a marathoner. But here they make sure that the relay people have a bib on back that says relay and the half runners start 10 minutes after the marathon and split off at around mile 4. The course is great. It runs in this small valley along the Columbia river. So you get great views of the Columbia and a second river. Also, great views of the surrounding mountains (at one point you could see Mt Hood) It is mostly flat (and I mean Flat not race director flat) Water stops were at the right intervals and well stocked. Nice after party at the finish. We got luck with weather. It was the only day we were in the area that it did not rain during the day. We stayed in Portland and it was only a 30-35 minute drive up to the race on race morning. Things that could be better: I have a marathon pet peeve. The marathon, relay, half and 10K all received the same shirt. And it was a good shirt. I like a marathon only shirt. Not having the 10K people getting the same shirt as I got. (But it is a small race) There is one section on the course just after mile 21 where you run along a levee on a dirt trail. While I like trails, this area was very potholed and had very large stones on the trail. Cool, beautiful area to run, just hard to keep the concentration need to run this surface after mile 21. Again, I would recommend this race to anyone who likes either small or rural races.

(about: 2015) 11-50 previous marathons \| 1 Blooms to Brews Marathon COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 This was a nicely organized marathon on a relatively flat and fast course with almost ideal weather except for a little rain at the start. It was nice for me to run with a small field of entrants as I had run the Athens the Original Marathon in Greece a few months before with 35000 entrants. I would definitely consider running this marathon again!
