"Will not do it again.!" (about: 2016)

11-50 previous marathons | 1 Let's Move Festival Marathon
COURSE: 2  ORGANIZATION: 2  FANS: 1

The organizers were trying to get the starting line set up only 10 minutes prior to the Marathon start. Laying out the timing mats etc. That was a bad sign for me. Most of the course was run on two lane asphalt roads divided by cones, with oncoming traffic. Unfortunately, although there appeared to be plenty of law enforcement personnel, who were all great, some idiot drivers managed to access the wrong side of the road with runners. This was very dangerous! The course is flat. Metro park is scenic and the best part, by far. Personnel manning the hydration stations were enthusiastic, but they ran out of water at the last few stops. I literally asked two volunteers to pick up a cooler, and try to pour some water from the bottom into my mouth, which they did. There were over 18 marathoners behind me at that point, around mile 24. It's inexcusable to run out of water! Also, for the first time in a full marathon, I missed two turns, as there was nobody out in the road directing us to turn, and there were so few runners, you could not always maintain a line of sight with someone ahead of you. I estimate I ran an extra .40 of a mile.
At the finish line, there was no food. If you wanted water, you had to find a cooler that still had some, and fill a paper cup yourself. There was a pizza truck in a parking lot across the street from the finish line, that was out of pizza. If you wanted to go inside Buffalo Wild Wings, also across the street, you could get some chicken nuggets.
I agree with prior comments about the excessive time to get race results. Especially, with such a small Marathon field of only 50 runners. I waited for nearly an hour, and when the results were finally posted, they were incomplete, omitting higher age groups. The area that they had the awards distribution set up was inappropriate, as it was right on the curb of a busy street with traffic moving past. The person who appeared to be in charge on the PA, was trying her best, but seemed like she had too much to do by herself, and could have used more people helping with designated and assigned tasks in the finish line area. They appeared to be understaffed. The finisher medal is just OK , but nothing great. The Age Group awards were cheap, very thin disk, medals. The finisher shirt is poor quality.

The Race Expo and packet pick up the day before at the Concorde Inn, was well done and smoothly run. My impression is that everything about this event seems to prioritize the half marathon, and other shorter distance races, and the Full marathon felt like an afterthought. They may want to consider cancelling the Full Marathon in the future, as there was a significant drop in participation this year from 2015, and the emphasis is clearly on the higher density half marathon, and other events.

I don't recommend this race, and I will not participate in it again.

"food and results" (about: 2016)

The food and drinks after the races was terrible. There was no bananas, no bars, no gatorade. Getting the results after was even worse. There was only 50 something people in the marathon. I waited over a hour and half still no results so I left. I've been to races with over thousands of people and it didn't take that long.

"Nice small town marathon" (about: 2016)

50+ previous marathons | 1 Let's Move Festival Marathon

This race should grow it is within 180 miles of 5 million people. I stumbled upon looking for a Boston qualifying marathon. It is a flat course the only hill is at the end. It is a double loop with traffic cones almost the entire distance. There were only 50+ marathoners. The good thing is that they started the much bigger half ninety minutes later. Starting the half later made the second loop much more enjoyable for me because I was able to pass many of them and other wise I would have been out there by my lonesome. The aid stations and traffic officers did a great job. Only snafu was with marathon results.
