"First year downhill race with potential for speed" (about: 2014)

The Bogus Basin Marathon is a road course which offers a significant descent of over 4,000 feet from the top of Bogus Basin mountain. The inaugural race, which was put on by the Final Kick Events group, was promising to be the fastest marathon course around. I would agree that for the first 19 miles or so, that is the case. You have panoramic views of the Bogus Basin valley as you run south towards Boise. Traffic on Bogus Basin road from the top was very light and not a problem. The morning weather was reasonable and not uncomfortable.

The race was supported by an ample number of aid stations. There were only two portable toilets on the course. The last few miles angled over towards Optimist Park in Eagle on busier roads which had rolling topography. Flaggers were present at key intersections to ensure safe passage.

One small snafu with the race. The buses hired to take runners from the parking lot at the finish line up Bogus Basin Road to the start never arrived. We had to have a hastily arranged carpool up to the top.

I think this race has potential to rival St George as a fast downhill race. I would encourage the race directors to explore the possibility of extending the course into downtown as the size of the race grows, perhaps following some of the City of Trees route.
