"A great day spent running in the woods!" (about: 2014)

COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 2 This was the first year for the Belmead Trailfest. The property was beautiful and the race, though small in field (85-ish runners between 26.2, 50k & 50 mi), was well done. Three well-stocked aid stations were evenly spaced on the ten mile loop. The only part of the course I didn't like was running the two miles of grass apron of the cornfields. The surface was hard to read and the random corn cobs could be ankle-turners. But I never fell, and avoided most of the the horse poop on the trails. The volunteers were all very helpful and enthusiastic. I highly recommend this race next year! | |

"Beautiful but not easy trail marathon" (about: 2014)

| 1 Belmead Trail Fest
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 2 Absolutely beautiful course, much of it wooded to create nice shade. The only reason not a 5 is that with so much more area to use in the park, why limit exposure to it by having three loops. Fabulous effort to mark a very complex path for the runners. However, for me, I had trouble keeping my eye on the path markers in the tree branches while trying to watch my footing with tree roots, rocks and holes. (I fell 4 times, twisted ankle 4). Went off trail twice and when I retraced my steps found the fork clearly marked but I just missed it watching the ground. Wonder if there is some evironmentally OK spray paint to mark roots periodically. No spectators but the people at the three stops were very nice and enthusiastic. Parking was easy and right at the start/finish. One of the best marathon medals I have seen. Perfect weather. I would do this one again. |
