"Great Job Since Race was cancelled for 4 years" (about: 2023)

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 1 It was a really good experience. The volunteers were friendly and helpful. The course being only on paseos was nice, did not have to deal with any car traffic. Plenty of water stops, the cupless water stops worked really well. However, there were a few spots on the course that weren't clearly marked, and some runners went the wrong way for a short time. No porta potties at the start of the race, only a couple of stalls in the park bathroom. Lots of parking, but it was 3/4 of a mile from the start. I would definitely recommend this race, and I will do it again. New organizers, new course, after no race for 4 years.

"A Well Organized Local Event" (about: 2019)

| 1 Santa Clarita Marathon
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Santa Clarita Marathon is a small, well organized local event. The course starts on a wide street. After 3 miles, it loops along the bank of a dry river bike route; and local parks. The scenic is valley view about the same all the way. Although it is small event, there were plenty well staffed and well stocked aid stations. There were volunteers to guide the ways in all road branches, junctions. Without their guidance, I may get lost somewhere along the way. Consider the size, there were many spectators along the way. Some sit on their balconies to cheer for the runners. It was a very nice day for running a marathon in 2019. The run started in cold morning. When we got into half way, the temperature got higher and air was dry. The California fire were in the neighborhood these few days. There was no pollution or any hint of impact to the event.

"The Perfect Half Marathon" (about: 2016)
3 previous marathons
| 2 Santa Clarita Marathons
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Mile 9-13 is slightly downhill but 7-9 is slightly uphill. Most of the other race is fairly flat and goes through a combination of natural parkland (though you run on asphalt) and regular roads. A few highlights for me: Pace runners at many different levels so its easy to find one going your desired speed; tons of volunteers and community members cheering you on; the starting and finish lines are fairly close together, making it easy for friends and family to find you; they have a loud and high-energy drum corps pounding away right near the finish line so that you get that last burst of energy to cross the finish line.

"Excellent organization & course support" (about: 2014)

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 Flawless organization, PROMPT on-time start, excellent course support (water and sports drink almost every mile, never more than 2 miles apart), and some of the cheapest registration fees around make this a great marathon! The full marathon course gets a bit boring, due in part to the scenery and in part due to the lack of spectators after the half turn-off, but the scenery isn't by any means ugly (e.g., industrial yards and warehouses). 5-year age group brackets maximize your chance at an age-group placement/prize. I have run the half once and the full once and will definitely be returning for at least the half every year!

"Excellent race, nice course!" (about: 2014)

| 1 Santa Clarita Marathon
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 I thought that his race was especially well-organized, especially considering the marathon was only a few hundred runners (versus the much larger half marathon). It was less expensive than the going marathon price, hotels are plentiful in the area, parking was free and easy. The course has rolling hills, though nothing particularly steep of any length. Some parts weren't that interesting, especially Soledad Cyn Rd. at Miles 20-22. But the spectators and course support were excellent. I didn't pay exact attention, but it seemed like an aid station with both water and poweraid at least every mile, if not more. The finish line area was great - lots of places to sit and relax, unlike other marathons where there's no place to rest weary legs. Finish line refreshments were a bit sparse, but staffed with enthusiastic volunteers. Overall an excellent race and extremely well organized.

"Well organized, flat fast course" (about: 2013)
3 previous marathons
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 The logistical set up of this race was excellent. No traffic pulling in at 55 min prior to start. Less than an hour drive from most parts of LA. Easy parking structure right at the finish line and only a couple blocks from the start. Also this was the first time I've ever seen a race with enough porto-potties. And they were very nice ones to boot. It is a medium sized race (I believe a couple thousand runners), big enough to have energy at the start, small enough to make it easy to get in and out. The course was pretty flat except for the pedestrian overpasses near the finish. Some of the road to path transitions are a bit odd, running through apartment complex parking lots. Well stocked and frequent water stations. The weather was very cool, mid-40s to start, mid-60s to finish. A great PR opportunity. Flawless organization!

"Great fast marathon" (about: 2012)

| 1 Santa Clarita Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 Loved the course which was mainly on bike/walking trails. There were very gradual hills but not any killer climbs. The 2nd half of course does get lonely and I had a stretch with nobody ahead or behind to be seen for about 15 minutes. 4 hr pace group was a little faster than it should have been at about 8:50/mile through 14 at that point I dropped back. Spectators sparse but volunteers enthusiatic. A little hot last few miles.

"Well organized, small marathon on a flat course" (about: 2012)
6-10 previous marathons
| 1 Santa Clarita Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 This was my seventh marathon and set a PR by about three minutes. This event has about triple the number of half marathoners, so after the split it gets lonely out there, making it much different from a big city marathon. If you run an 8:00/mile or faster, plan on running alone for most of the second half. The course runs along bike paths for most of the course to reduce the amount of road closures. It is a well organized event, and had a decent amount of spectators for a smaller marathon. There were also plenty of water stations. There was only one pace group, which was four hours because of the size of the marathon. So if you want to run a smaller event on a flat course, I highly recommend this marathon.

"Great Marathon!" (about: 2012)
4-5 previous marathons
| 1 Santa Clarita Marathon
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 Just completed this marathon and had a great time. The course support from the volunteers was fantastic! At every water station you were greeted by enthusiastic volunteers that encouraged you along the way. I agree with the prior comment that once the full marathoners split from the half runners, you are suddenly by yourself and the other runners are few and far between, which is the way I like it. The weather was warm (finishing temp was at about 84 for me), but the water and Gatorade were cold. Would definitely recommend this race. |
