 "Super challenging and felt like an ultra" (about: 2014)

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 2 This was my first marathon and so glad I did it on this course. I'm a trail runner anyway so I do all my long runs on trails. The course is super remote and very technical at times with a lot of rocks. The hill climbs were brutal with several climbs at 20% grades and 600-700 foot elevation. You climb these sections not run them. But I loved the climbs. The single track sections sent you thru old hemlock grooves with moss and ferns lining the way. 100% shade was also a great advantage. The aid stations were fantastic and very ultra style. They had ppj sandwiches and cookies and candy. The volunteers were so welcoming and helpful and the course was marked extremely well. The field was 56 full runners and 349 half runners. My PR for a road half marathon is 1:53 and I did the full in 6:08. So that gives you an idea of what your in for. My fastest mile split was also mile 23 right before the final killer climb. So if you want to truly test your marathon skills sign up for this bad boy. I certainly can't wait to do it again. |
