Run through three states, and in the National Park
Tracy Brooks (3/14/14)

The Cumberland Gap Ridge Trail Marathon will be an epic adventure covering 26.2 miles across 3 states — Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia — inside the boundaries of the Cumberland Gap National Historical Park. The point-to-point course begins at the base of the Cumberland Mountains in Virginia. Runners will make the climb to the Ridge Trail along challenging terrain and finish in the historic town of Cumberland Gap. The National Park has limited the race to the first 150 runners, who will be shuttled to the start line.

"Incredible run end-to-end in a national park!" (about: 2014)

Great site to be able to run through, but a TOUGH course with a lot of up and down hills to pick along. Would almost like more in the park than the 5 mile loop back uphill in town and around LMU.
Loved Angelo's as the packet pickup, place for pasta.
Wonderful stay at the Cumberland Gap Inn just 4 blocks from the shuttle pick up.

Aid is UNDERSTANDABLY spread out along the course and they advise youpack a hydration source. The stocked stations were greatly appreciated and thanks to those who hiked water up for the others!!! Another one or two in the park would be great if possible.
Nice North Face shirt and Headsweat visor for the finishers.
Terrific BBQ meal at the finishthanks to all who prepared it!

Negatives:
COURSE: the last 5 miles were almost cruelthe uphill from mile 21 to 22.5-ish found me with little left but a weak trudge.

ORGANIZATION: In town. You had a young lady sitting at a point where the 5 mile loop went out and came back. Once all the out-bound runners passed her, she left her sunny, shadeless post. My wife watched more than one runner make the wrong turn there and head back to campus. Another wife of a runner ran this person down to turn them around. My wife had many thank her for volunteering . (Race shirts on the official volunteers would help us identify who to ask for help). (Would also like a FEW more orange tapes on the course for some reassurance we weren't lost).
Finally-as a 50 stater, the finish time print out can validate us, but if for some reason that isn't producible they'll accept a bib or a medal. For a vigorous event like this, a bib with the race name on it would be nice (they had Road ID generic bibs) and a medal for the medal rack instead of a visor would be a suggestion.
Still-very nice 'bling' for a new event, wonderful site, wonderful people, food. Will hope to be back!

"amazing scenery, very tough course" (about: 2014)

Very well organized marathon. Your own hydration and nutrition is a must. The remoteness of the trail means there are few aid stations. Difficult trail with extreme hills and awesome views. This was my second marathon and I ran it an hour and a 34 minutes slower than the first if that gives any idea of the difficulty. As hard as it was I loved it and am glad i did not miss the opportunity to compete. There are very few spectators because of the innability to access the trail from many areas. If you love trail running don't miss it.

The race was well organized. It is the toughest marathon I have ever run.
