Best part was the smiling volunteers every 2 miles. Could not have finished without them!!

Really nice route for discovering Islay. With just enough little up and down hill and wonderful view to keep you busy during the race. Water point every 2 miles make the run going well and the voluntering were really encouraging. I would really recommend it if you are into friendly organization and scenery.

A bit damp, a couple of hills and a whole lot of fun. Brilliant support teams full of enthusiasm. Never run anything so small in terms of numbers and loved every minute of it. Definitely want to return next year.

My first visit to Islay to take part in this wee gem of a marathon.
I have had the privilege to run in some truly beautiful marathon course locations over the years and this one without a doubt is right up there with them.
A stunning point to point race hugging the island's south west coastline from Portnahaven to Port Ellen taking in beach, moorland and the odd famous whisky distillery along the way.
Faultless organisation from start to finish and all for the worthy raising of funds for the island's high school children.
Special mention to them for their fantastic efforts in creating what has to be the most utterly unique finishers 'medal' I have ever received-a personalised and barley filled laphroaig whisky bottle with cask stave snugly mounted over the neck of the bottle. Now proudly displayed in my home.
If you are looking in and wondering whether to sign up and give it a go,don't hesitate and get your name down for the next one. You won't regret it.
It was a joy to be in at the beginnings of a special race destined for future success.

This marathon was very enjoyable. It was very well organised, had picturesque scenery and was well supported from start to finish. The first half of the course is flat and fast, the second half more hilly but not steep, so a fast time can be achieved. Scotland's culture, its natural and historic beauty and its friendly people were all on full display. This is a small marathon but one that will live long in the memory.

This was a small race in a beautiful part of the world. Much bigger marathons could learn from what was an exceptionally well organised event; great race information leading up to the day, pipers at start and finish, mile markers, support every 2 miles and a warm feed at the end. The course was stunning and varied taking in small villages, coastal views, moorland and past distilleries! The support from the helpers and volunteers was brilliant, and there was a lovely ceilidh in the evening with displays of piping, highland dancing and Gaelic singing from the local highschool children. The aim of the event was to raise funds for school trip. Hopefully the race is on next year; everyone who's seen the photos wants to go - highly recommended.

"Great Scenery and Great Support!" (about: 2014)

This was the first time Islay held a marathon but you'd never know it: the support was excellent. Water and sport drink every two miles, courteously handed out by volunteers. Mile markers easy to see. Terrific pasta dinner, reasonably priced. Wonderful post-marathon party, a Gaelic ceilidh, featuring Gaelic singing, teenaged girls piping, and Highland dancing - plus a great meal, a potluck cooked by volunteers - all for £5, the bargain of the century. Instead of a t-shirt, an engraved Glencairn glass was given. The finisher's 'medal' was unique: a green-glass whisky bottle from Laphroaig, filled with barley and labeled, made by a local teenager with name, age, and home town. Very special. Also a finisher's hat, which was a surprise.
The point-to-point route was one of the most scenic I've run, stretching around an ocean bay, through whitewashed Scottish villages, and up and down the hills of moorland. Temperature was in the 40s, ideal for a race. Hills moderate. Strong wind, but at your back most of the way. Volunteers deserve much credit for the excellent post-race food. Plenty for all. Funds raised for the school children. This marathon will never be a large one. Sign up early for next year's.

As one of the inaugural runners I feel privileged - both to have taken part and to be fit enough to take part. Outstanding scenery, hospitality and a challenging course with a Scots Piper start and full band welcome at the finish!

It was very nice run, beautiful scenery and what more important locals where truly awesome. Thing you won't get very often in the races nowadays.
Hope they will keep it such! And home baking was nice as well ;)
