M. from Indiana (10/20/2020) "A Runner's Dream Race" (about: 2020) 11-50 previous marathons \| 1 Hayden Lake Marathon COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 In these crazy times of 2020, it was just so nice to be able to run a real, live, in person, race. We were sent lots of info on how things were going to be laid out and that's how it was. Precisely the way they had said. We got everything in our packet at packet pickup including our race medal. It was efficient and no frills. RD was excellent at responding to emails!! Race morning went smoothly. We all chose start times pre race so that there wasn't a mass of people at the start. When you were ready, you started your race. The course was amazing in so many ways. Rolling hills, ok some more challenging than others, greenery, many views of the lake, solitude, deer standing by, plenty of porta potties, (thank you) and aid stations for everything you could possibly need. Felt horrible about the water bottle waste as many of us don't need 16 ozs to drink, but once again, different times right now. Self serve aid stations were great. Finish line was perfect. Grabbed a bag lunch and headed on our way. Distance and mask usage was excellent. For us runners who just like to run and don't need all the frills and crowds, this was the perfect race!! For those who need all that hooplah, find another destination. Quarter zip for the marathon was a bonus!! Other distances got a tech shirt. Nice design so quite pleased. Medal was beautiful!! Overall experience was great!! No real crowds on the course, but I couldn't give the race any less than the 4 for that because everything else was perfect. Weather was beautiful for us runners, so we were very lucky. Thank you Hayden Lake. You saved the day!! Checked off ID in my 50 state quest!! If in the area, go see the 7 Stars Alpaca Farm!! How fun!! Sonia and Andy will show you a great time. Will be back some day to visit again!!
