"Nice Little Race That's Worth Your Time" (about: 2014)

11-50 previous marathons | 1 HITS Running Festival - Oklahoma City
COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 2

This race is very small. I think the results showed ~70 finishers. The course was a simple out and back and offered a few highlights: the state capitol, the Bricktown area, and a bridge with a cool sculpture on it. The course was well marked, with lots of cones and signs and a good amount of police support, better even than some big-city races I've done. There were also several porta-potties on the course (one benefit of an out-and-backyou pass everything twice).

Even though there weren't a lot of people to wrangle, the organization was excellent. Start was on time, and this might have been the first race I did where the chip was in the bib, so no fumbling with that. In such a small field, I was able to place in my age group. Even though I didn't realize it until later, they were very quick about mailing me my award (I don't live in the area).

There were no spectators to speak of, just a few family members here and there. It would be very easy to watch your runner a lot. This really isn't a downgrade on the race itself; you just can't expect much with only a few dozen runners. The volunteers at the aid stations were great.

Overall, this race was nicely done by friendly people. The medal even is personalized to OKC by featuring the scuplture on the bridge (I don't know the name of it). This organization puts on various running races throughout the country and they could have made one generic finisher's medal for all their marathons, but they didn't. I thought that was a very nice touch.
