"My Least Favorite Marathon" (about: 1997)

11-50 previous marathons | 1 Smoky Mountain Marathon
COURSE: 3  ORGANIZATION: 2  FANS: 2

Host hotel staff were rude and did not allow late check-out (like there was actually something else going on there that weekend); aid station was out of water; and the course was not well marked. Was not as hilly as one might think, but slant of road was hard on the ankles. There are a lot of better marathons around.

"Nice low key marathon" (about: 2002)

A double out-and-back course which runs concurrently with the half marathon, the 2 hills are small, the scenery is wonderful, as are the race organization & volunteer support. The pasta dinner was tasty, and the weekend hotel package at the Best Western 200 yards from the start was economical and made the pre and post marathon experience one of the best I've had in 7 marathons.

"Great race on a beautiful course! A+" (about: 2000)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 3

This is a great marathon. The course is actually flatter than the name implies; gradually rolling, except for a hilly section from 18-22 miles. Very well organized. Spectators are scarce, but very supportive. The 2001 race is cancelled due to road construction, but will continue in 2002. RECOMMENDED!
