"Challenging but somehow it was enjoyable." (about: 2013)

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 3 Very good organization and execution of the event. Definitely a challenging marathon course but was an enjoyable time due to the wonderful and numerous volunteers at all the street intersections and water stops. Enjoyed friendliness of all the marathoners and volunteers during and after the race. Met an Asheville marathoner and her parents for the first time at the expo. They made me an encouraging sign and displayed it out on the race course. Asheville has a lot on nice people and has numerous good restaurants and other activities to do before or after the race.

"Great race, tough course" (about: 2013)

| 1 Asheville City Marathon
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 This was a well organized race on a challenging course in a beautiful mountain city. The views were spectacular in places - crossing the river at dawn with the Blue Ridge Mountains in the background - but the course could be brutal. Other than a four-mile stretch along the river, the hills were unrelenting, including some long, steep hills in the final miles. There was some traffic on the course, but with the small size of the full marathon field and the early-morning start, this was never a problem. The organization of the race was impressive, particularly since this was the inaugural year of the full marathon. The course wasn't easily accessible to spectators, and there weren't many except at the start and finish. But the ample volunteers along the course more than made up for it in their numbers, enthusiasm, and helpfulness. I would definitely run this race again - as long as I've done a lot of hillwork to prepare and am not trying to PR.

"Hills. Hills. And then some hills. And then beer." (about: 2013)

| 1 Asheville City Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 The course was hilly, but it's Asheville so it's impossible to run 26.2 without a lot of up. I don't know about everyone's experience, but my wife and a friend cranked out excellent noisemaking support for this runner (and those who were around me in the pack). Post-race there was beer from Highland Brewing Company = win. My lone piddly whining complaint: they ran out of donuts. Overall: a fun day in Asheville. I'll do it again.

"marathons should be fun not grueling" (about: 2013)
11-50 previous marathons
| 1 Asheville City Marathon
COURSE: 1 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Asheville's marathon puts a new meaning to challenging. More participants would mean more revenue to the city. |
