This race was the first half I have ever run, and boy was it the proper choice! The race director did a great job of keeping everyone informed through Facebook and was so great about answering any questions/concerns that people had. I had no anxiety at all before hand due to this superb organization.

The only thing I could maybe see knocking, and I can't, is that I thought there would be fruit/GU/something similar for half marathoners as well. I didn't see anything on the course, could just be my mistake and missed it. But I can't complain about that.

The only lingering question is not if I will return for 2013, but whether or not I will run the half or the full next year! Great job by everyone who organized this.

Best marathon I've run. (about: 2012)

The race organizers did a fantastic job at organizing the run: Great communication and really well organized - better than some bigger, more expensive marathons.
They put a lot of effort into having hilarious signs along the route (when you can laugh at a sign at miles 19+, it's got to be funny) and creative mile markers. Also, did great at having enthusiastic water stations and aid stations. Excellent feast at the end too!

My only critique is the course through the A&M campus. It was NOT marked well around Military Walk and the MSC and there weren't enough volunteers directing. I saw several runners get lost around this area.

That said, I would absolutely run it again! BIG thanks to the organizers for putting it together and making it top notch!

Excellent, low key race, very well organized. I have run a dozen marathons before and there is not one organized better.

My only suggestion for improvement is to run the race on the left side of the road (facing traffic) instead of the right. Like all road runners who practice safety in training, I log all my miles facing traffic. Running an entire marathon on the opposite slope of the roadway crown causes a lot of addtional stress on the body.

All in all, I think everyone has covered the positive aspects of the race very well, and there were no negatives.

Great race that improves each year. (about: 2012)

This is a great race. It is on the smaller side which is good for people that don't like running in crowds. The course is fairly flat. The swag is good and the food at the finish is outstanding. The only knock I had on the race this compared to the first year is that there seemed to be less spectators. I think the spectators that were along the course were generally better than last year, but there were definitely less. This isn't really an issue for me. There also seemed to be less people at the finish line, but weather may have played a part in that as people that finished the half may not have wanted to stay around to watch the marathon finishers.

I would have to say I am very impressed by this marathon; however I also have nothing to compare to other than the Buffalo Stampede (half marathon) also in the BCS area. Now with these two I would have to say that the BCS Marathon blew the Buffalo Stampede out of the water.
Leading up to the race was phenomenal Chris Field, the race director, was very incouring to everyone. Plus the Scott and White medical staff put on several wonderful and very informative seminars leading up to the race which taught this newbie runner many things, many of which were the opposite of what the military has taught me.
The race itself was great from the cheering from the volunteers, to the medical staff spread out the course, and even the locals coming out to cheer. It was very great for a newbie to complete my first race. I couldn't have asked for anything more.
Thanks to Chris and all the BCS marathon team.

I have run the 1/2 marathon both years and each time was amazed at how well organized and personal it felt. I had some apprehension about it jumping in sizenot that it would not be well organizedbut that it wouldn't feel as personal. This was not the case. The attention to detail given by the Race Director is outstanding. He has created and sustained a wonderful running community. Looking forward to next year!!

What a great day! This was my first race over a 5K and it was awesome. From the start, the communication from the director via Facebook and emails was second to none. He provided helpful hints, breakdown of what to expect race day and also had a series of lectures to attend to learn more about marathons/half-marathons at Scott and White.

Race day started out nerve wracking for me! As I walked (a super short distance) to the starting area, I saw lots of port of potties (Praise The Lord, that was a welcome sight). My only comment would be to have the doors facing away from the starting area. As I walked around, I found my pacer for my goal time. She was super friendly and explained how she ran the half to me and what to expect from her during the race.

The water stations every 1.5 miles was wonderful. It was nice not having to carry a hydration pack!! Every station had tons of volunteers handing out water then gatorade. There were lots of spectators along the route holding signs. My personal favorite sign said something like, 'That sweat is really your fat cells crying'!
As a former student, the run through Northgate and Campus was welcome and I enjoyed that part of the run the most!! The ice water towels were a welcome sight and helped cool me down, and that was fantastic!!
The people (police and corp members) helping with the road closures were friendly. I even had a corp member high five me and tell me I could do it! (Mile 10ish....I must've had a look of doubt)!
As I rounded the corner to go downhill to the finish line, I began to cry! I started running this past February, more or less on a dare. 10 months later, here I am, running 13.1 miles.....something I never thought I would do. Then I rounded the corner to the finish line and saw all the faces of the Mercy Project and saw my sister-in-law (who had finished) cheering me on. I kicked in what I had left. By the time I got to the finish line and had one of those sweet children give me my medal, I was overwhelmed! It was an amazing feeling.
Post race was great too! I will say that having to walk down a hill to get the best pizza roll ever (thanks Double Daves), didn't seem very nice....but with the space where the race finished, it worked well. After eating and drinking, we walked up the hill to the FREE massage area. One of the massage volunteers worked on my back and legs for 15 minutes!
After running this race, I know I am spoiled. The director, his staff and volunteers went out of their way to make sure I had a wonderful experience! This was a great experience for me and it's something I'm so glad I did. Thank you!!!!!

This was my 10th marathon. Overall a decent race - well organized and the volunteers were very supportive. Plenty of fluid/medical stations. The course had some quiet stretches, and miles 20-22 had a couple of curbs to negotiate (not easy on tired legs) and some sharp turns onto narrower pathways. If this section were changed it would improve the course.

This race is well organized and just a lot of fun. The post race spread is amazing. The spectators are great. Shirts rock. Best of all, 100% of proceeds go to charities.

In 2011, I ran the Dallas White Rock as my first 1/2 marathon but had been 'watching' the BCS race on Facebook for an entire year. So, I decided to register & I had never been more motivated, excited & encouraged to run a race like I was for the BCS. In the course of one year I ran a total of four (White Rock, Diva Run, Myrtle Beach Mini & BCS 2012) and the BCS was just AMAZING! From the crowd support, organization, food, MARGARITAS, course, PARKING, etc. it truly was a wonderful experience! You were not merely a ' bib number'...you were a RUNNER! Chris knew your stories, what motivated you, where you were from! LOTS OF GIVEAWAYS on Facebook leading up to race day too! This is definitely THE race to run in Texas. I WILL be back...and will bring my friends! 'Like' their Facebook page and you WILL BE hooked!
