"mentally and physically challenging...." (about: 2017)

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 A unique and undiscovered event. It's probably the smallest field you will ever run in, which is one of it's pluses. You will be tested mentally with the lap repetition, (and if you really want to test yourself, do the double), but the staff does a good job with the music (especially liked the polka change of pace in the middle of the race) and the weather is perfect! Limited fan support, which is understandable considering the venue. Well organized, with a lot of personal contact with the RD and crew. This one is on my 'be back next year' list...

"It will do for a New England Marathon in February" (about: 2014)

COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 4 I just moved to New England for a year and am excited to knock a bunch of states of my '50 States' list. I found Hyannis on Marathon Maniac calendar and immediately registered as its timing was perfect. Pros: 1. It almost started on-time. 2. The weather was FANTASTIC (better to be lucky than good). 3. The spectator were great. 4. There was still food left at finish area for a back of the packer. 5. The course was well marked. 6. The course was provided some very pretty scenery. Cons: 1. This is a half marathon and relay with the full marathon being a distant afterthought. I would ask the RD to PLEASE scrub the relay. 2. The medals and t-shirts for both full and half are the same (not a big deal, but...) 3. Course was a double loop. The aide and course support (marshals, police) for the first loop (half marathoners) were great - but it was spartan during the second loop for full marathoners. I paid much more money, got the same medal/tshirt, and got less aide. 4. There was poor crowd control. LOTS of non-runners in the start mass hanging out with their runners. Also, when full marathoners headed out from S/F area on second loop there was almost no room to run with crowds, finished half-ere and open traffic. This is a decent marathon. If you really NEED to run a full in MA, in February, it'll do.

"Awesome" (about: 2013)

| 2 Maple Leaf Indoor Sunday Marathons
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Awesome event on a small college campus. Track surface is new and made for good times. The crowd really pumps you up. I hope to do it every year. Course is fast and flat with no elevation change...because it is on an indoor track. Really loved the 'down with the sickness,' song during the race. |
