"A Nice Indoor Marathon" (about: 2011)

I think the organizers did a nice job for the first year. The course was somewhat easy on your legs because of the dirt track. There were a lot of turns and you saw every one of them 120 times but I think this was better than a simple oval. The temp inside was perfect for running. The volunteers were great. Having 120 water stations was excellent and having them stocked with energy gels was a plus. The food afterward was plentiful and good. It was nice to see the lap count displayed on the wall, but it was hard to establish a good pace based solely on a lap count and time. The large number of turns did not help with the pace either.
Overall, I thought this was a very good race and I will likely run it again next year.

"fun" (about: 2011)

I enjoyed this race even though the course was pretty tough and my ankles were quite sore afterward. I really enjoy indoor marathons; this was my fifth. We get to see everyone in the race the whole time and can carry on running conversions with them as you pass.

The course here was pretty tough. The surface was compacted soil that was fairly smooth but did have a good number of bumps and ridges. The toughest part of the course was that it was E-shaped and so on each lap we had five 180-degree turns and two 90-degree turns. And so, with just under 120 laps, we had 598 180's and 240 right-angle turns. This slowed me down quite a bit. The nice part of the course was the straightaway with a little hill that let us stretch out our legs a bit.

The race organization went very smoothly - a well run race. They had lots of water and Gatorade and gels, and a table at which we could leave our own drinks if we prefer. The volunteers were very friendly.

I really enjoyed the race and I plan to run it again if I can forget about how my ankles feel right now... lthough next time I may just run the half.

"Great inaugural race" (about: 2011)

Had a ton of fun with this unique event! A trail marathon in February in Wisconsin might seem crazy, but the indoor aspect is great (and maybe even crazier than being outside). The motocross track really did feel like an outdoor trail and was certainly not smooth and flat. There is a hill (which you end up climbing 120 times) and plenty of turns. The course had one really tight turn, the only bad part of a nice course. As the race grows, I think the number of spectators will grow as well.

"Great way to get ready for spring" (about: 2011)

I'd never done an indoor marathon before. Since it was a little more than an hour from my home, I used it as part of my training. Organization was perfect except that the website could have had more updates. The track had a nice surface once you got used to it (some quick turns and even a hill you saw 120 times). I only needed one rest stop, since I passed it 120 times. No skimping on runners' needs; great volunteers kept the Gatorade (full strength) flowing, GU was always available, and we had access to full bottles of water. Temperature was a perfect 50 (or so) degrees - with no wind (ha!). The facility is used for motorcross, so it smelled a little like exhaust, but that wore off (or I got used to it). They were playing great 80s tunes the whole time, and if they got too boring, the crowd would grumble and the DJ (the race director!) moved the music along. They kept track of where you were through the announcer and a projected screen. We got an awesome tech shirt (with a pocket - very cool). Too often races care more about the race than the racers. or the top/elite runners are treated well and the rest of the field are "the masses." Here I think everyone running was treated like a star... and that was something really special! Anyone who loves just to run (i.e. doesn't need the crowds and the fake glitz), and especially anyone who lives in the upper Midwest should pay attention to this run (especially with the way airfares are going up). Great job, guys - and thanks!!
