This race was cancelled due to government shutdown. No refund was offerred at all. Most race companies don't give refunds for cancelled races. I'm disappointed. I think I am done with this race company, bbsc running.

Top 10 reasons To Run Lake Mead
1) Beautiful scenery view of the lake and surrounding mountains for the entire race
2) What better place to have a post-race celebration than Las Vegas
3) Escape the winter weather in other parts of the US
4) Medal and shirt are great and high quality better than expected for such a small race
5) Post-race snacks were delicious breakfast type snacks early and pizza later
6) Easy access to runners pre and post race for families
7) Future chances to make sure that Race Director ensures the accuracy of course markings throughout the race; he didn't in 2017 leading to some runners taking a 0.7 mile detour.
8) Volunteers are super enthusiastic
9) Super easy packet pickup
10) Simultaneous smaller distant races for other family members to enjoy.

This was my 19th marathon and my quest for NV state as the number 12 of 50 States. I can't speak highly enough about my experience at this race. Great volunteers and breathtaking scenery. The weather was perfect throughout the entire day. It's a very small race, a total of 29 finished marathoners so if you are looking for lots of spectators or fellow marathon participants - look elsewhere. The marathon course is 2 loops of the half marathon course...while the course was gorgeous, be prepared for hills. I would have preferred not to run 2 loops. But overall, I would definitely recommend this race to anyone who is brave enough to tackle the hills and enjoy the nature and solitude. It definitely is peaceful, I enjoyed.
Also I visited the Grand Canyon West skywalk the day after the race before I head back to Virginia. It was not a bad drive from Hoover Dam Lodge-it was only 1.5 to 2 hour from it. Cheers!

What a great race! Everything they advertised and more. The volunteers were great, happy even in the miserable weather! I would like to do all of these races! Did I mention how great the shirts are?

This was my first time running a fifty mile ultra and what a great run to do. Starting with Joyce - but including a very challenging and scenic course, fantastic volunteers at well stocked stations, easy access from the airport and host hotel, a great two bag drop system, very abundant if needed medical crews, and more - I really am glad I picked Calico Running in general and this race in specific as my first (and one day later, my toes and legs are saying last) ultramarathon. Ultra runners start early and in the dark, all 28 of us, and finish after the others. But, I imagine things are even better for the marathon, half marathon, 10k, and 5k runners. I have wanted to run other Calico events, and I know when I do, to expect nothing but the same professionally run race.

Some things you may want to know. I chose a race run completely on paved surfaces. That may not be for you. While there was traffic, it was very minimal. More bicyclists than cars. Miles 19 to 25 - well let's just say, you won't catch me running them in July! Race day morning was in the low 30's. I don't think it got above 45 during the day. But the two bag drop system that you access twice - out and back - allows you to make adjustments and not carry things you don't want or need. The hotel was a casino and that means very affordable, but smoky. I wish I had considered a hotel in Boulder City - still very close but less smoke - as an alternative. And, there is no crowd support. You are your own inspiration!

Before flying home, I went to Hoover Dam. Wow! I will come back for the Hoover Dam marathon or the ET midnight marathon!

The 'Running from an Angel Marathon' boasts stunning vistas; a first rate organizing committee, and some fan support. The assembled field of runners could best be characterized as 'serious' and were great company to boot. I run exclusively to raise donations on behalf of 501c non-profit charities. I ran this race for 'Points of Light'; 'Cross Int'l' and 'World Food Programme'. I definitely recommend the 'Running from an Angel Marathon'. God bless and God speed to all and a safe and happy 2013.

I love the Calico Racing series! I ran ET last summer and ran the half marathon portion of Running From an Angel this Jan. What a great getaway from Washington, DC.
Also, I found some additional pictures from the race- so if you didn't find yourself on the race sponsored photos maybe you'll find yourself here:

Rolling hills along Lake Mead, mild temps and Calico organization make this a great marathon run.
If you are looking for cheering crowds pass.
Who needs cow bells?

Great race. I only ran the half but the full was more of the same. Beautiful weather. This is a pretty hilly course so don't expect a PR. The organizer did a fantastic job in all respects. Plenty of water and Heed about every two miles on the course, Hammer gels, oranges etc about every four miles. Great enthusiastic volunteers but not very many spectators as there wasn't much room for them to park on the route. No traffic on the way to the course, no parking issues. Reasonable walk to start, plenty of shade and restrooms at the start. Less than 1k participants for all distances with less than 200 marathoners. Very cool looking finishers medal and nice quality tech shirt.
