J. from Chicago, IL USA (3/21/2009) "Great race, and even better organizers" (about: 2009) 11-50 previous marathons \| 1 Maritzburg Marathon COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 At the last minute, I found myself heading to South Africa for work. I looked up marathons on MarathonGuide.com and found that Maritzburg would work into my schedule. I emailed the race organizers and their assistance was remarkable. This included a personal guided tour through the Comrades Museum and regular contact with me through my weekend while they were setting up for the marathon. I can't say enough about their hospitality. As for the marathon, it is a good course, with rolling hills and diverse scenery along the route. The course is well supplied with aid stations and the runners very friendly. I encourage you to join in the fun if you find yourself in South Africa and near Pietermaritzburg in early March. Thanks, John, for all of your help!

Please, can the runners of the second lap (of the full marathon) not see the finish? The temptation to quit comes in mind as you pass the finish (seeing the 21.1KM runners going in). Just a suggestion....

I and many other runners do not like two-lappers. Going through housing estates is boring, but if you are fit, this race can give you a fast qualifing time for the Comrades. The organizers and especially the marshals and water points were great. Thank you for giving up your time to support us.
