"Very low-key" (about: 2010)

11-50 previous marathons | 1 Provo Marathon
COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 3  FANS: 1

When I entered this race, my wife and I were going on vacation in southern Utah and there happened to be a race in Provo, Utah the weekend we started. Trying to run in all 50 states, I entered.

I didn't know anything about the size of it before. If you need a lot of other runners or good crowd support, then this is NOT for you.

But I really enjoyed the course. It starts on a gravel road for around a mile; then the rest is all paved except 1/4 to 1/2 mile. Most water stations were not manned but were located every 2-3 miles. Most of the course is downhill as it follows the Provo River from around 7,000 feet to 4,700 feet.

The last few miles are on a bike/pedestrian path, and everyone that I met was very friendly.

The only gripe I have is that we were told on the website about the pancakes and fruit at the end. They were not ordered because of the small entry list!

"Starts at the 2002 Olympic X-ski Center - Beautifu" (about: 2003)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 1

This course ran where Olympic athletes skied 2002, then downhill on country roads to a new paved trail. We ran around 3 golf courses without crossroads, next to the mountains.
This course will run down a canyon trail next year. Beautiful.
August has a 2,000-runner 1/2-marathon down the canyon.
