"Full Marathon Dropped in '05" (about: 2004)

I ran the half in '04, and it was a nice, flat course, although much of it was on a concrete bike trail. It pretty much runs around and through my neighborhood so I'm biased perhaps, but it runs through the old part of Ft. Collins, and along the Poudre River Trail and the Spring Creek Trail, so the scenery is generally very pleasant, and I thought the organization was quite good. All this said, in '05 they did not run the full marathon and I don't know if they're going to revive it in '06. I suspect they just didn't get enough interest since there are so many other marathon options in Colorado that time of year, or maybe there were sponsorship problems. Either way, I recommend the half to anyone.

I did not run this race in '05, but I was spectator. They improved the course layout to take out the industrial park at the beginning, but they did eliminate the full marathon. I suspect they will keep the half in '06. I recommend this run.

"Hard For Me But Still a Great Marathon" (about: 2004)

Well, I had a hard time because I was sick with bronchitis but too pig-headed not to run this marathon. I could still recognize that it was a good course with a mixture of shady areas and such. Aid stations were often enough. Overall, I feel if I had been well that day, I would've flown through the course. It was pretty well-organized, and the course was enjoyable.

"It may be small, but it is very well organized!" (about: 2004)

My buddy and I decided to run this race as a training run. He's a triathlete training for a spring race while I was looking for one last long run before New York. We had a great time together!

The race had everything we needed: enthusiastic water stations, multiple gel stops and just enough crowd support to get us through the final miles.

Overall, I enjoyed this race and appreciated the charms of a small marathon.

"Better every year" (about: 2004)

I just want to publicly thank John Lonsdale and his crew for putting on a first-rate event. Each year this race has gotten better. John has obviously listened to input from the participants regarding course changes, mile markers and age-group awards. The course changes have been minor but improved the route in a very positive way. The aid stations are entertaining and the spectators that show up are very enthusiastic. The weather has been great all three years of this event and I wouldn't be surprised to learn that John somehow had a hand in that as well. Thanks to all of the volunteers and support people, too. You have all made this a fun event and I'm sure it will continue this way for many years.

"Way too much concrete and sharp turns!" (about: 2004)

The course is beautiful in parts, but I would not run it again because a large part of the half marathon was on concrete. Great volunteer stations and after race party.

"One of the better marathons I've ever run." (about: 2004)

Started exactly on time and 30 minutes before half marathon. The half marathon leaders caught up with me just before the courses split so there was no interference. The marathon course was flat, fast, well marked, and plenty of aid stations. Great support! Recommend this race for marathon beginners.

Not very well organized. Even though I was pre-registered, they only had extra-large and small t-shirts at the packet-pickup on the day of the race. The start of the marathon/half marathon was too bunched up. The course was uninspiring. The post-race refreshments were very good.

"A terrific first marathon for me!" (about: 2003)

Flat, beautiful, and great weather (October usually is--but there ARE exceptions). This is probably a great first marathon for folks. The only downside was the shortage of food at the finish line.

"Much of the race was on bike trails" (General Comments)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 2

The race course was extremely well marked. Cones were placed every 50 to 100 feet. On the bike trails, at every y in the trail, they had the wrong way blocked off with cones. Great race for runners to run, and not to think about where you were going.

"Fantastic Inaugural Race!" (about: 2002)

I only found out about this marathon 10 days before it happened. I was coming up to CO to visit relatives and opted to use it as a training run. The course was great, plenty of water stops, volunteers were very enthusiastic. I am considering running it again next year.

The only thing that I had a problem with was the altitude. Guess you can't help me out with that problem.
