Needs more local publicity (about: 2004)

A great day for a marathon, and it felt good to finish. The 'serve-yourself' water and Gatorade stops were adequate. There were very few competitors (less than twenty finishers, perhaps below 'critical mass') and the towns of Norfolk and Norwood didn't seem to know there was a race going on. The last mile on the sidewalk in Potsdam made for some tricky footing and dodging dogs and pedestrians. The actual finish area was beautiful and rewarding, at the gazebo along the Racquette River. This race needs more people!!! The course itself is challenging but not unfair...no brutal punishing ups or downs, but only occasionally flat. From mile 6 on, it got mighty lonely out there.

Friendly, fun race in September (about: 2004)

This is a great race, the course outline makes it look like the hills are a killer but they are much more gentle then it looks. I will definitely run this again. People are friendly and the town is a lot of fun. Lodging is a bit of a problem and it should be advertised more because it is a lot of fun to run.

Very small race, quite scenic with rollling hills (about: 2001)

This was my first marathon and I wanted to wait until I ran another to write a comment. I have done three more since this marathon and would run this one again if it was still in April. The temperature was ideal in April and there are more marathons to chose from in Oct. than April in the northeast.

The volunteer support was superb and there was good supervision of the course with bike patrol. The hills on the return (out and back course) were challenging, however I was so excited to finish my first marathon and not be last. I even won my age group since I was the only one in it! Great first marathon!

I ran this the first year. It is a great course running along the Racquette River the entire way. Be aware that this is a very hilly course. You run out and back (out down river & back up river) so the hills coming back are bigger than the hills going out. Very few flat spots. I will probably run it in 2002 now that it is in the fall. It is a small and enjoyable race.
