For my first marathon, and I certainly picked a tough one. The first half is a dark narrow trail with lots of Redwood tree roots popping up. Climbing the steep stairs along the waterfalls while holding onto the roped fence was a challenge. Afterwards is the long haul up to the summit. The last mile of the course is straight downhill, which makes for some speedy finishes.
Recommendations: Bring plenty of water and fill up at the halfway point for marathoners. I ran out of water with 6 miles left and paid for it. The course is beautiful, and I do recommend it for experienced racers.
