A Runner from New Jersey (11/23/01)
I love this race. I've run it several times over the past 12 years, and it's a great training run and a good way to put a qualifying time in the bank. Four laps around the Aberdeen Proving Ground might not sound very interesting, but it's really not bad, and pit crews can see runners regularly without moving around. With four laps, the competitors are spread over 10K, rather than 42K, so it works well for the number of competitors. The course is flat, and good for pacing. If you aren't certain that you are ready to run a complete marathon, the course passes the start every 10K, and so a runner can easily drop out early. Race organizers are friendly and competent, and amenities (T-Shirts, certificates, awards, and food) are better than those found at many larger races.
