"A small, friendly marathon on a beautiful Island." (about: 2011)

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 An ideal first marathon, very small but superbly organised. A bus service took us to the start, our drinks/gels etc were sent on to the frequent water stations and the Marshalls were friendly and encouraging. It was a two lap race, very scenic, but the supporters were few and far between.Apart from a steady incline at the start it was mainly flat and I found it most enjoyable. After the race the Isle Of Man Veteran Athletes Club laid on a wonderful spread in the clubhouse. Fantastic event, I would do it again.

"Great organization" (about: 2005)

COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 I have run this marathon twice and recommend it, as the Isle of Man has wonderful, picturesque scenery; and those of you who enjoy a challenge, you will find testing hills. But running two laps of the same course is tedious, and more could be done to utilize the Island's major attractions. For example, what about the Laxey Wheel or a starting point in Douglas? It is the capital city, after all.

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 The Manx people are ever-so-friendly, and while outside of the towns and villages support is thin, the after-race food and drinks are the best I've ever experienced. The local hospitality is great - a wonderful excuse to visit the island.

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 I have run this race (and the 1/2) quite a few times. Very friendly crowd: did not manage over last year as I was in Thailand, and I'd have loved to come over next week, but I just can't make it. Post-race food is top notch. I still have my photos when Norman Wisdom presented the prizes. I hope to be over in 2007 to say hello to my many friends on the island. I'd advise anyone who wants to run a nice, friendly marathon to get over and spend a few days going round the island.

"Worth a go" (about: 2005)

| 1 Isle of Man Marathon
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 1 This was my first full marathon, so it's difficult to draw comparisons. I enjoyed running along country roads, but I reckon the bumpy surface made my feet feel more sore than they otherwise would have done. It was certainly well organised though, and the post-race beer and buffet kept the crowd together at the end.

"Well worth running this one" (about: 2005)

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 This race is well worth doing. The course is very scenic. The first 4 miles are the hardest - with a long climb at around 3-4 miles. After that it isn't so bad. I only ran the half marathon so you have to do two laps for the full marathon. The organization is very good - it's a great, friendly atmosphere and the buffet lunch after the race makes it worth all the effort.

"A superb marathon in a superb setting" (about: 2004)
4-5 previous marathons
| 1 Isle of Man Marathon
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 Extremely well organized, excellent drinks stations and friendly people. Not an easy course but not overly tough - undulating for the first 3 miles with one short hill that you have to tackle at 17 miles second time around.

"A tough marathon on a beautiful island" (about: 2003)
COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 1 A small country marathon that would suit serious club runners. A gradual climb for 4 miles with a vicious hill at 3 miles, repeated on a two lap course, will slow you down. Open roads, so be careful if you tire. No support to mention, and as you are on your own for long periods, it can be a test of mental resolve. But fantastic and intimate post-race atmosphere in a small soccer stand with a buffet, bar, and fun trophy ceremony makes up for the hard run. Take time out to visit the beautiful sights of the island; all you could see in Britain in one place. |
