"A very fast, in-and-out, no-fuss marathon." (about: 2004)

Ample parking adjacent to start/finish. Packet pickup, restrooms, warm staging areas, and post-race shower facilities are conveniently located in nearby gymnasium. No traffic problems, long lines, or extended start-line waiting periods, unlike many other marathons I have suffered through. Marine support troops along the course were impressive, professional, and eager to assist.

"Fast, boring, no fans" (about: 2004)

Not a good first marathon - boring as hell - flat, few turns, minimal support, no fans. If you want a fast race, this is it. Organization was ok - but there was NO FOOD/GELS, etc. throughout the course. Small number of participants makes it nicer.

"A Great 'Small' Marathon in a Unique Location" (about: 2002)

This was marathon #6 for me. The race was well organized and the military police did an outstanding job of directing traffic. All volunteers were encouraging and helpful. The aid stations were at every 2 miles until mile 10 and then every mile until the finish. Many volunteers (mostly Marines) stood out in the rain at the aid stations. The course is very scenic, but fully contained within the base. The roads are tree lined and you cross over many 'tank crossing' areas. The finish on the track at the stadium gave me that last push to get to the finish, along with screaming spectators. I PR'd this one by 4 minutes.Yes, it rained, but that is not the race directors fault. The field house is used for the pre and post race activities and awards. I still gave the spectators a 4, because the few that were there were wonderful.

"Great race, no spectators" (about: 2002)

Great relatively flat course. Well organized. Volunteers block traffic at all side roads. Marines man aid stations which offered water and Gatorade. They are about every 3 or so miles until around mile 10 and then every mile thereafter. MP Marines block major intersections giving you right of way. No real spectators. If you made eye contact with one of the workers they would give you encouragement as a rule. Others offered encouragement. The people at finish would loudly cheer you as you entered the track for finish which was nice. Little distraction which was nice.

"Marathon is well organized, but a self-motivator." (about: 1998)

The race director of this marathon does a good job logistically speaking. (No I am not affiliated with him!)

There is a nice pasta party the night before and aid stations along the course and the finish line are coordinated well.

The main problem with the race is that it's contained entirely on USMC base Camp Lejune, and with less than 300 entrants, and a lot of open base training area, dont expect much spectator support (other than an occasional applause as you pass through base-housing.)

Dont expect much in the way of scenery, but the course is flat for those looking for a fast time.

There is one section between two groups of trees that was completely exposed to a 20 MPH windgust for about 15 minutes the year I ran.
