 "Run L.A. again" (General Comments)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 I've been part of this event for 4 consecutive years. I'd like to thank to all the comments about your personal experiences on that rainy day. But I encourage you all to try L.A. again. Probably next year you will enjoy the beautiful sun, weather, music and crowds from mile 1 to mile 26 as I have enjoyed. Don't let a silly rain stop you. After all, aren't we runners? | |

"Nobody Walks in LA" (about: 2000)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 LA is the place to be. Great course, fabulous spectators and well organized. Although stay away from the Ultima Replenisher drink. For me it'll be a Bring-Your-Own-Gatorade event. | |

 "Can't judge LA by 2000!" (about: 2000)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 I gave everything for LA a '4' because it is impossible to judge this race based on the 2000 monsoon. When a city gets 25% of its annual rainfall in one day (the day you're running 26.2 miles!) it does throw things off just a little. I blessed every brave spectator that was out there in the deluge. It was disappointing not to have the big crowds and entertainment that I heard about, but can't blame them for having the good sense to stay indoors. The expo was good... there were lots of booths for the bikers, too. My biggest complaint is the porta potties.... not nearly enough for 20,000 runners. I waited in a line for 15 minutes at mile 17 and after that my legs thought I was finished and wouldn't cooperate again! Also, ditch the Ultima! I carried my own Gatorade because that Ultima stuff makes me sick. I read a lot of negative comments about Ultima.... are the race organizers listening? | |

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 LA is usually a fast course. I hoped to qualify for Boston on the LA course, but it wasn't meant to be. I was ill-prepared for the unseasonably cold weather and the torrential downpour. I'd like to run the course again under better weather conditions. | |

"This was my first marathon and I swam it!" (General Comments)
COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 5 The LA marathon was my first marathon and I learned many valuable lessons about running in the pouring rain. Trashbags are excellent repellents to rain but eventually everything gets soaked. Never run with gummy bears in your vest or a dispoable camera. They become a gelatinous mess in your pocket and the cardboard from the camera gets stuck to your legs. At mile 22 of the race, I was mentally abusing myself when a voice said,' You probably don't care anymore but I thought you might like to know that your right butt cheek is completely exposed. It looks very nice but I thought you might like to know.' I had removed my trashbag at mile 18 on Hollywood Blvd. So I had run in the LA marathon for 4 miles and knew nothing. The crowd support was strong during those miles and now I know why. The voice was also right...I didn't care anymore. These were special memories for a water logged event! LA has an okay course but the best part is the spectator support: people standing in the pouring rain the entire route to cheer you on! Five stars to LA for that! I'll be back! | |

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 2 Well I ran it, got a PR as a master and my time doesn't show in your results page. Boy, and I travelled from the UK just to run the race as well.... I had a great time, thanks to the LA Leggers, and despite the rain thought LA was wonderful. The organization at the end was poor compared to some other races I have run, and I marked down the spectators, possibly unfairly, as the rain must have kept many at home. Those that were out were great. For the record I finished 881 in 3:33:59(chip-time), and I'm male, aged 41 when I ran it. Liam Mycroft New Mills High Peak UK |
