The Course:
If you can run downhill, this is an event for you. Like all the other Revel Marathon series, this is a downhill course. Except three or four less than quarter miles gentle upward sections, this course is all downhill. Note that running downhill needs some training, or your muscle can be cramped easily.
The course is indeed a fast one. I have set my personal record for my 2016 run. Partially contribute to the course. Partially contribute to the perfect weather for that day.
The weather for 2016 run was perfect. There were some snowflakes when the run started on time at 6:30am. About 1/3 of the road was blocked dedicated for the event. On the traffic side, highway patrol police cars escrow all the local cars on the other side with well controlled speed. The lane for the runners is wide enough for comfortable paired run and passes.

The Services:
The event is well organized. The Revel series have been established for years. All are in proper order. Some obvious improvements are made to their event each time. There are plenty volunteers at expo and along the way. The volunteers and the organizers have made this small event enjoyable. In 2016, about 700 runners ran full Marathon.
The baggage check truck at the start line left the start area after all runners left the start area. You may drop your bag as later as a minute before the start. Thats a wonderful service, especially consider the start area was cold on the day of the run. The bag claim was fast and convenient as well.
There are plenty aid stations along the way. Near the finish, the distance between the stations become short. The last aid station was one mile from the finish line. Along the way, three of aid stations supply GU, my personal favorite food when I run.
You may check your official result right after you have come out from the finish line restrict zone. The results are online shortly.
There are 5~6 photo points for full Marathon, including the start line and finish line. You may download your photos for free from the event web page.
Although the web page encourage you to email them if you have any question or request. Thats not true. When you write to them, dont expect your email will be read or will be replied, not even an auto reply. I tried to make some corrections to my registration. The correction had never happened.

The Spectators:
Las Vegas is a gambling city. Do not expect the gamblers come out to cheer you up. Most of the routes are in the mountain area, not many residents there anyway.

Everything was great.
Revel says it will be fast, and it IS!
I've done 112 marathons in the past 6 years. I Boston Qualified by 15 minutes!
2nd fastest time in 112 marathons.

Revel did a great job:
Real busses to the start line.
Tables and chairs to sit at at the start.
It was cold at the start, but you didn't have to dump your drop bag until right before the start.

GREAT mile markers.
Excellent support on the route.
Excellent finish with pizza, music, and CHAIRS. Yes, it's great to sit on a CHAIR at the end, not on a lawn, although you could do that also.

This run is not only well organized, but truly a great course for a Boston Qualifier.

This IS downhill like advertised - it won't kill you but expect soreness post-race. Started on time, gloves and mylar wraps got their use - it snowed at the top! The pavement was very smooth and no camber. Streets were coned off so almost zero traffic (zero spectators as well). Big mile markers, well-stocked aid stations with very friendly volunteers. Nice finish area with pie! Huge medal. Busses worked great, parking, packet pick-up all easy. Here's THE concern for the future: Vegas had unusually cool weather this year and cloud cover. It's normally 20 degrees warmerthe last 16 miles are on the desert floorhad it been in the 80s/90s, it would have been a death march. Hoping they consider moving this race to March or early April. Tons BQ'd or PR'dthe weather had a lot to do with it. The downhill is gentle and constantperfect course for sure. Fast results. Great job, Revel crew!
