"Great race, great organization!" (about: 2014)

This was my first time to run Rocket City and after my experience, I would highly recommend it! Pretty much everything from start to finish was great. I enjoyed the course relatively flat other than a couple of small hills later in the race. The only part of the course I wasn't thrilled with was the gravel path and road near the Space Center and Botanical Garden...it was unexpected and late in the race and running on tired legs AND gravel made it a bit precarious. However, aside from that, I loved the course, the volunteers were fantastic along the route and at the finish line, and I loved the indoor finish and getting to ring the PR gong! And prior to the start, the race organizers let all the runners stay indoors at the Von Braun center to stay warm before heading outdoors to the start line. It's definitely a race for runners, put on by runners. I would definitely run this race again. Huntsville was a welcoming community and I had a great experience all the way around.

I've run Rocket City 3x before this year's race. I had bragged to my friends what a great course it was (flat). WRONG! Why change the course after so many years?! There were MANY more hills than the old course, and I wasn't expecting the off road section with gravel either! The section with the space center was not impressive either. I enjoyed finishing inside the coliseum, but to have to walk up a flight of stairs after finishing a marathon was torture! And there was terrible bottle necking. Please change back to the old course, because I have loved this race in years past!

"Great event!" (about: 2014)

This was a perfect size race in my opinion. There were no corrals and we were free to line up where we wanted (behind the elite runners of course). The weather was perfect for me, I prefer the cold to heat any day. The water stops were well supplied although it would have been nice to have the first one around mile 2 instead of after the 3 mile mark. The course was nice, had a nice variety of neighborhoods and parks and was relatively flat. There was a section of unpaved roads that made for some unsafe running. I liked finishing in the stadium where we could get out of the elements for a while and the post race food was good.

The expo was nice due to a big venue and basically no crowds. I like the tech shirt with the date on it (12-13-14) and the medal is pretty sweet. All in all it was a great race and I enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend this one!

This is my third year running RCM as a pacer and it just gets better and better. A new course was unveiled for 2014 which did a wonderful job highlighting Huntsville's major attractions including historic downtown and neighborhoods, US Space & Rocket Center and Botanical Gardens. All finishers receive a quality technical race shirt, hat and gorgeous medal. The pre-race meal features great food, interesting speaker and dining under the rocket. Don't miss this fun race!

RCM provides a nice mid-size race in a surprisingly interesting mid-size Southern city. The organizers did a top-notch job especially considering the price ($60): The race hotel is connected to the Expo, practically on top of the start/finish (which is inside an arena) in the dwntwn area which offers a lot to do/see. My family (wife, 6yo & 2yo sons) enjoyed the Kid's Marathon, Xmas trees in adjacent park, Xmas lights at Botanical Gardens, Rocket Center, and authentic German food (HSV has 2-3 German eateries due to Rocket Ctr). HSV/RCM offers plenty for the family to make a nice w/e of the event. If you're in the SE, this is a great race. The course is a relatively flat figure 8 winding through a number of neighborhoods & past HSV's sights. My only criticisms are 1 long stretch through some public housing (boring) and a bit on unpaved surfaces in the Botanical Gardens which came at 19-20 miles making the going a bit rougher. Support is sparse, but enthusiastic; water stations well-provisioned with H2O, Powerade, and Gu. Nice swag for price: tech shirt, finisher's cap, and medal dbls as bottle opener. Well organized, fast race in a nice town. I really enjoyed the whole trip and cannot recommend RCM more highly if you're in this region & want to take the family on a long w/e around a race on a modest budget.

"VERY well organized, plenty of support!" (about: 2014)

This being my 23rd marathon; I genuinely enjoyed it! I rated 'spectators' as a 3 becasue, by default, there just aren't alot. But I don't need that. I loved the course and there was plenty of food and drink at every station. Would definately do it again. Great job to the RD and all volunteers!!!

This is a great late season race, especially if you are trying to fit one last marathon in before resting for the spring season. The course was well marked with just light rolling hills in the 2nd half. Pace groups were abundant for all the important times that BQ hopefuls want, with two pace leaders per group. My leaders also were able to warn me about different course sections, such as the middle had a long gradual hill, but then followed by easier half and mostly downhill for final 6 miles or so.

I enjoyed this race: reasonably flat, running through the space and rocket center and historic neighborhoods, and excellent volunteer support.

"A really good race" (about: 2014)

6-10 previous marathons | 1 Rocket City Marathon

First half of the course was through neighborhoods...a good amount of spectators for a small race. Last half ran to the Space and Rocket Center and Botanical Gardens. It was pretty cool running through the NASA Space & Rocket Center. Finished indoors, which was different, but nice on a cold/windy day. Great medal. Chocolate milk and ice cream sandwiches for post race snack!!! Volunteers were outstanding. Overall, a great race.

Plenty of logistical support for hydration/help .... friendly volunteers/atmosphere. Great/energetic spectators.. Liked access to showers afterwards (as 8am start /4.5 hr timing made going back to hotel unrealistic). New course for 2014 will be major improvement as it will elim several mile stretch on 1 road. Excellent food/SWAG. Really enjoyed this one!
