"Well organized, extreme downhill" (about: 2014)

The race was well organized. Shuttle service to the start up the mountain was good and the bag drop service was efficient. The race started right on time. The race was limited to a decent size and there was no congestion. The first half is an extreme downhill run and I ran it much too fast (killing my quads) and paid dearly later. The course was all paved streets and there were no traffic issues at all. The run down the mountain was beautiful (though the end was painful for me). Many runners qualified for Boston on the fast downhill course, but the steep course proved too much for me. I found the water stops adequate and volunteers were great. There really aren't spectators until near the very end of the race. Overall, it was a well-run and enjoyable race, but I'd recommend training specifically for the steep downhill.

These guys really did it right for their first one!! The organization was well done all the way from the expo to the finish line. There are no words to describe the natural beauty of this course..the start was litterally above the clouds and descended for over 13 miles (4000')..makes my quads ache just thinking about it!! After mile 13 or 14 the course began a series of rollers, some of which were steep and well over a half mile long&I guess I missed them on the profile? The finish line was about the only place there were specters but they were there in force and we could hear them from 2 blocks away. Great food and a huge metal made for the end of a perfect day. If you want a fast (mostly) downhill course this is it!!

"Amazing Fast Course" (about: 2014)

This is an amazing fast course. If you'd like to set your personal best, that's the one for you. This is my 19th Marathon. Sure enough, I got my PR here. I am sure a good percentage of the runners got their PR at this event as well.

2014 was the inauguration of this event. The registration was closed more than a week before the race. No doubt, this event will be filled very fast next year, again.

The course is beautiful. The race starts from almost at the top of San Gabriel Mountain national forest. The first half is winding down at a very fast pace. You need to train yourself to run down hills before you hit this challenge. There are, however, a few gentle uphill sections at the second half.

The organizers have organized a few other similar races. The entire event was well prepared and well arranged. Along the route, there were plenty of enthusiastic volunteers, well prepared aid stations. There is an aid station almost every 2 miles.

This is a small event. You may find your own pace at almost the very beginning of the race. The weather was perfect for a long distance run. It was a little chill at the top of the mountain start line. The cafe house and the fire pit were very helpful.

You don't see spectators around until the last two miles. This is the nature of the course.
