"Beautiful scenery, great running surface - awesome" (about: 2009)

This was my first marathon and it was a great experience. The race course was beautiful, and the surface was very easy to run on. There were multiple spots where my family could get close to the trail and cheer for me and take pictures. Water stations were frequent and volunteers were friendly and always cheered for the runners. It would have been nice to have port-a-potties a little closer together, but everything else about the experience was awesome.

Great day. I have run the half and full now, and both have been great. A nice course. Beautiful scenery, and well organized!

I have only run one other marathon, many years ago. The Towpath was different because I really enjoyed my run more than the finish. It was more like a long trail run with friends than an organized marathon.

This marathon was very flat! The scenery is gorgeous, being at the start of fall when the leaves are changing colors! The only issue is that there are not enough spots for spectators to be cheering. I understand why, being on a trail, but when running 26.2 miles, the energy from the crowds really helps - especially after the halfway point. But overall, I would definitely run again because it's flat and beautiful!

This is the second year in a row that I ran this half marathon. I love the course and the awesome scenery along the way.

The start of the day was a bit crazy though! Not enough porta-potties, and the van where the runners leave their belongings should travel to the finish so that runners have their dry clothes or whatever they leave when they finish!!! It would be nice if they opened the building so we could stay warm too. Otherwise... great spectators and a pretty course. I will do it again.

I have known about this marathon for awhile but never had the opportunity to participate in it until this year. I really enjoyed it and hope to run again. It is a RUNNER'S marathon. Beautiful scenery, friendly people, and a great time to be in Ohio. Thanks to the staff who put the race on. I almost don't want to say too much or the word on this race will be out.

But, it's a great race and the word should be out there.

This was my third Towpath Marathon... beautiful, flat, soft, cool course. Qualified for Boston. The "figure 8" course is great. Highly recommend this small marathon.

I ran the half-marathon. I only have one "issue," and it's the same as last year - parking/shuttle buses. I doubt there's much the organizers can do about it, given the limited ways in and out of the the area. But the wait in traffic to park and the wait on a shuttle for the half-marathoners takes a bit of the fun out of the day. Not a deal-breaker though - fun event with a very pretty course!

First Marathon

The course/race/day was wonderful. My only concern was that many - and I mean many - were still in lines at the port-a-pots for the 10K and half. There certainly were not enough for the needs of all. It's well organized and the race went very well. There is also a need for ice at the end of the race. I ran the 10K and am looking forward to running the half marathon next year. I am in training for another half marathon in January 2010.

This year, 2009, was my first time running in the Towpath Marathon, and I would definitely give it two thumbs up!!!

The course is absolutely beautiful, with awesome fall colors. The trail is smooth and flat. Although it's not overly abundant, there were a good number of spectators at several points throughout the race.

The out-and-back routes for the first and second halves of the marathon provided positive reinforcement for me.

The race officials, volunteers, and fellow runners were super friendly and supportive.

The race expo was held at a ski lodge (Boston Mills) within Cuyahoga National Park. Although small in size, it was fun, friendly, and "homey."

The host hotel was only about four miles from the start and was very accommodating, especially with the pasta buffet on Saturday night and the late check-out.

Overall, it was an excellent marathon experience!!! I would recommend arriving at least on Friday or staying an extra day so that you can enjoy more of the national park and the various small towns nearby.
