"Very well organized race" (about: 2016)

This race (marathon) was well organized and the runners were kept advised of what was going on. I was impressed by the email sent out a couple days before the race. The results were sent to me within a couple of hours of finishing. Race started right on time. Not many spectators, but those who were there were encouraging and rang cowbells. Waterstops were where they were supposed to be. Only downside was that Heed was the sportsdrink, but I understand that is a personal preference. No bad things about this race.

Great run, well orginized for their first time. Now on their 3rd year.

"Beautiful Course" (about: 2015)

The course was reversed from last year which is a plus as it provided lots of shade. This year the weather was great for running, 46 at the start and mid 60s at the finish with a cool breeze. Aid stations were plentiful and the volunteers enthusiastic. Didn't really like the two mile loop in the park but it does allow you to see runners ahead and behind you! Don't stay at the Quality Inn. They refused late check out despite being told two weeks earlier it was no problem. Only pizza to eat at the finish though there was beer plus Dunkin Donuts who also had sweet tea! The course is very pretty. It could use a little more traffic control on the middle section from mile 10-18 where there was two-way traffic. Overall, it was a great day and a great marathon!

The course starts at the Casements (Rockefeller's vacation house) and utilizes an area called 'The Loop'. After the first mile, the course goes into the swamp and its like running through a park until mile 20-ish takes you back into subdivisions until the finish. The race started late due to a tree falling over the route just before the start...can't blame the race organizer for that one. Not many spectators but aid stations plentiful and well staffed. However, it is a very hot time of year to run. Recommended for those who like nature-oriented marathons.

"Beautiful course, lackluster race" (about: 2014)

The course is beautiful but the race was awful. It started 40 minutes late and was hot as balls. I would never run this race again.

This was the inaugural running of the Tomoka Marathon and the organizers put together a great event. A little late starting after heavy downpours that ended just before race time, but this wasn't much of a distraction. The course left town quickly and moved into Tomoka State Park, offering mature, old Florida vegetation as scenery. The course runs along the river and marshes, which offered a great run if you are into solitude. Due to a somewhat remote course there wasn't much support along the course but the volunteers at support stations were plentiful and enthusiastic. The homes that we ran by as we returned to 'civilization' were beautiful. Everyone associated with the event that we spoke with was fantastic. This was truly a run for runners by runners. Thanks to everyone involved. Well worth the three hour drive and overnight stay. This one will go on my annual 'To Do' list.
