"Very well organized!!" (about: 2012)

This race is very well organized.
Pros: Water every mile from 1.5 on, fun volunteers, many medical tents and bicycle crew to ensure safety, fun expo, nice course through the city, great pasta dinner and party, great crows support for most of the race.

Cons: VERY hill and tough first half. I am from Pittsburgh, so I run hills often, but I found the first half to have some pretty intense hills. Also, there was literally NO shade for at least the second half and it was very sunny. It was 85 by the time I finished... but this isn't really something the event could help.

I would definitely recommend this race! I had a great time!

What a race...Kudos to the race organizers on just about EVERYTHING!!! even the Star-Spangeled Banner was top-knotch!!! Cincinnati is clearly proud of this event and I felt like the entire city was out and cheering...Every inch of the way was covered with specatators. Because the temperature was threatening to go up into the 80's..more water stations and 'hog washes' were added...The maps for my husband were awesome and he easily caught me at various locations...Nothing was left out....An awesome race!!!!

"Impeccably organized, great crowds" (about: 2012)

I ran the half marathon, not the full marathon, but I was so impressed by this race that I wanted to add my comments here since the half marathon review site is not as well-designed for comments as this is. Plus my daughter ran the full marathon and was just as impressed as I was.

This race was an absolutely first-rate experience with a very evident attention to detail and obvious commitment to the comfort and happiness of the runners on the part of the organizers. I have run 16 marathons (including Boston and New York City) and countless half-marathons and none were as well-organized as this race. The fact that they allowed runners to switch between the half and the full marathon is a really good indication that the racers come ahead of the convenience of the organizers, something that is very unusual in my experience. Plus, the fact that the medals and the t-shirts were specific to the particular race is something that means a lot to the runners but is often ignored by the organizers, not to mention that the medals and the shirts were top quality and very adorable. In addition to the usual shirt and medal, we also recieved an excellent duffle bag and poster. The expo was first rate, the course was varied and tough but enjoyable, the volunteers were awesome (REALLY awesome, I can't do justice to it in words), the crowd support was just phenomenal, and the start and the finish were incredibly well-organized. In fact, I have a hard time visualizing the astounding amount of work it must take to organize a full marathon along with a half marathon AND a relay with such impeccable attention to detail and flawless execution. And shuttle buses back to the hotels??? What a great touch! And so many portable johns! Far more (like maybe five times more) than I remember at any other comparable race. Excellent entertainment along the course so energizing.

The course was a bit hilly, mostly in the beginning, and this year it was unusually warm and humid. The organizers had water stops every mile and there seemed to be medical stations almost as frequently.

"Fantastic experience, couldn't be more well run." (about: 2012)

My first marathon, but it couldn't have been better. The course support was great, water and gatorade at every stop and stops every mile. Gu at 18 and 22, cold towels a one of the later stations, and even a body glide station later in the race for those who needed it. The medical personel seemed to right on top of runners under duress. Crowd support was the best! Throughout the course there were heavy, vocal and supportive crowds. Many places where people were handing out orange slices, bananas, jelly beans. Running through the tall buildings in downtown Cincinnati with the big crowd was neat, and the finish was awesome. A nice long, gentle downhill into downtown with a cheering crowd lining both sides. Really a great finish! The course had some nice views of the Ohio River and Cincinnati, especially early in the race when it hops over to Kentucky for a short stretch. I'm really proud that my hometown does it's marathon so well.

It was a scorcher and the folks who managed this race did an incredible job supporting the runners with additional aid stations, designated misters, ice water towels and generally fabulous support. The crowds were everywhere and really kept the energy level high. Totally loved this race would recommend it to anyone, beginner or grizzled shuffler. To the race organizers I have to say THANK YOU for a great day! You did and amazing job!!!!

"Outstanding race, challenging course!" (about: 2012)

This is a very well organized race and they do a great job of making the race a major citywide event with amazing crowd support. The crowds in the Mariemont area around miles 15-16 were particularly outstanding. This is a very challenging course with plenty of hills, some of which don't seem to be accurately represented on the elevation chart. There was one 'dead' area on the course around mile 18 where you're running along a highway with no crowd support. They gave out handtowels dipped in ice cold water around mile 22 which really helped re-energize me for the last few miles. There are plenty of aid stations about every mile with water and Gatorade. Great finisher medal as well. Overall, a highly recommended and very challenging race!

"Great race but extremely hilling" (about: 2012)

Very well run and organized race.
It's not the most scenic course but there were lots of spectators throughout most of the race.

The course profile does not do justice to the hills. The entire course is very rolling. Miles 21+ are particularly tough as it is one continuous uphill, although it doesn't seem to show on the elevation profile.

Only negative (aside from the hot weather) was they ran out of men's t-shirts (except for XL & XXL).

"Great Race!!" (about: 2011)

This is a very well run race. Both the half and full marathon were very organized all the way from packet pick up through race day. The hills are tough, but the course support was amazing during the entire race. Perfect number of aid stations that were always fully stocked. Only negative was difficulty getting into the corals to start. The on course music was awesome. There was even a jimmy buffett run aid station around mile 23 that was a good pick me up! The pacing groups were also all right on time! I would suggest this race for anyone looking for an organized, fun course that is very challenging!

This was my first marathon and it did not disappoint. I've been to many expos and events in the past, but this one was great. Plenty of good swag and lots of great people.

The course as a whole was hillier than I prepared for, which seems to be a common theme, but there was good energy along the way to keep my moving. The water stops were awesome, they had contests for the best stops, so each group put on their best show. The only downside of the course was when it ran on the highway, no fans, running on an open highway, and that's when I hit the wall. It took a bit of time to recover from that, but the energy at the finish was bringing me home.

I wish I lived closer to this race, but I will do it again.
