A Runner from Georgia (2/2/02)

Tybee 2002--awesome volunteers, fast and flat, little wind especially for the second half but all in all great marathon. Definitely would advise anyone to run this if they like small crowds. And the volunteer at the water stop with oranges, you were awesome to run to us to had us some oranges!!! Need more water stops closer together. Thanks Tybee!!!

fun and fast in a great place (about: 2001)

A Runner from Folly Beach (Charleston) SC (3/26/01)

I had a blast. This was my third marathon and I had a PR (40 minutes ahead of my other two!). Tybee and Savannah are great places. The crowds were small but their enthusiam made up for it. The volunteers were great. Runners were fun too...I talked to everyone who passed me or I was able to pass.

Nice small marathon. (about: 2001)

Jim from Florida (2/6/01)

Fast flat course, double loop. First loop crowded as half marathon starts and runs same first thirteen miles, then you are on your own for the sceond half. Nice course through residential neighborhoods and then out to the Tybee Island Lighthouse. Small section on major road but not much trouble with traffic.

Great small-venue marathon (General Comments)

Steve Bledsoe from Chantilly, VA (2/4/01)

My hats off to the Savannah Striders and the people of Tybee Island. A great marathon put on by a very professional runners group. Course, which is flat and fast when the wind is not strong, was terrific. Despite the two-loop course layout, the scenery, lack of long straight-aways and camaraderie with fellow runners made the run fun and enjoyable. And although there were few spectators, the volunteers were wonderful. Thanks for being out there to provide support and to cheer us on, especially the folks from SCAD - you were great. I definitely plan to be back in 2002.
