"I ran the first 6 years and it improved every year" (General Comments)

Early start (cold) may bother some. I liked it. The run through the parks is wonderful. However, most of the race is outside the parks with not many spectators. I ran it every year as long as I lived in Florida. I miss it but I dont think I will travel to Florida to run it again. If you want to really have fun and great race run New York.

"Good for a few times" (about: 2001)

I am not complaining about how bad the marathon is. I am running it again in a few weeks. I just want people to know what they're in for. What they DON'T advertise.

Last year we had to be in place several hours before race start. It was about 32 degrees and quite chilly. One can only warm up for so long. I recommend bringing some throw away sweats.

The course is more than 70% on roads between the parks and has quite a few overpasses. The scenery on those roads leaves a lot to be desired. Spectators are very sparse if you look for that sort of thing.

I thought there were plenty of aid stations and the volunteers were great. I will only run this as long as I live nearby though. It is much more expensive than other marathons and not as good.

"big extremes- really bad or really great" (General Comments)

COURSE: 3  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 2

I'm a cold weather runner so the early morning start didn't bother me...some it might. The biggest gripes involve the course....boring overpasses and highways. This is directly proportional to the number of spectators, which was next to zero. They try to make you forget about these really big inadequacies by running you through the theme parks for a few miles. Those are great, no doubt about it, but they really don't compensate for a subpar course. Did it once, not again. I suggest you do it once just to say you have but leave it at that. There are others that are better. Have fun. Good running.

"THIS RACE STUNK!" (about: 2001)

COURSE: 1  ORGANIZATION: 1  FANS: 2

The race starts way-way too early(6am). You are asked to be in your Hotel lobby by 4:30 am to make it to the start on time(nuts!). There was no water at the start for runners. This is Disney so of course you could buy water. The course was 70% on their parkways and highways. You get a beautiful tour by Disneys sewer treatment facility. Fan support is really non-existent. The marathon tee shirt was an non descript shirt that has no year on it, which means that if you wanted a decent shirt with the year you could buy it(remember this is Disney where if they can make a buck off you they will). This race was nothing but sizzle and not a hint of steak. Pleasssse do yourself a favor and pass on this one.

A Runner from Boulder, Colorado (11/13/2001)
"Great Family Fun" (about: 2001)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

Course is nicely segmented to wind through 4 of the theme parks - giving you a goal within the race. Disney does a fantastic job of supporting the race. You know there is a marathon going on while you're there.

Course is basically flat. It's run on asphalt and there are a few overpasses to run over. All miles were well marked. Aid stations were more than enough. Course volunteers were fabulous. The organization/execution of this race are top notch.

Be prepared to be at the start very early. If you're staying at a resort, the buses to the start line leave at the latest 4:30 a.m.

"I love everything about this marathon!" (General Comments)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 5

I truly enjoy running in this marathon. The walk to the start is a bit long but it allows me to warm up. The number of Disney employees who show up at 6 a.m. to cheer you on is also fantastic. Nothing beats the fun of running through the parks and they do a good job of keeping the crowd back for those of us that cannot finish before the parks open. Can't wait to run it again. It has become a yearly tradition for my family.

A Runner from AL, USA (8/21/2001)
"Great run with much entertianment during run" (about: 1999)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 5

This marathon is great. It is organized very well. My only complaint is the poor race start execution. One must walk about one-half mile to get to the starting area. A runner must be at this start area about one hour before the race start. This area has no toilets, and you end up with hundreds of very well hydrated runners having to urinate at the side of the road.

Enough complaining.

The course is flat with the exception of a few road overpasses. Fluid and refreshment points are logically placed on the course. Also, there are a variety of entertainment / get your mind off the pain, events on the run. Things like running through all of the theme parks, having the Disney characters cheering you on, bands, etc.
All-in-all a great experience even with the race start complaint.

"What's the Big Deal???" (about: 2000)

COURSE: 2  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 3

Okay, so the marathon was an excuse for my kids and I to visit DisneyWorld and have a terrific time. And the race had that Disney touch: well organized and user-friendly. And I have a great pic of myself, sweaty and medalled), with Snow White after the finish. But most of the course is on service roads, it starts in the dark, and it was hot and crowded. Glad I raced it - and you should too - but more than once would be a waste.

"organized, flat, well supported, good for 1st time" (General Comments)

This was my first marathon and it was a great experience. Lot's of fun, lot's of employee spectators, lot's of port o potties (and real bathrooms too.) I plan to do it again.

A Runner from Georgia (6/20/2001)
"This will be my fourth Disney." (General Comments)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 4

I will run my fourth Disney Marathon in 2002. I have found this to be a fun-filled weekend, organized, and pleasant; much in keeping with Disney-style. I have noticed that the runners who tend to complain are the one's that don't read everything that is sent to you by Disney and don't do their research. Every marathon is what you make of it. I look at the half-mile walk to the start as a warm-up. I'm happy to have the corrals and split starts; I don't have to trip over slower runners who deceive the hosts about their times. I like the quiet stretches; it makes me appreciate the spectators lined up in the parks to cheer me on; it gives me time to think, stop and tie a shoe, etc... If you register and then get your hotel on site, there's always something thrown in. Every marathon is subject to delays and Disney is no exception, but they do keep you informed. Attitude is important when you're dealing with a stressful situation and that many people--who are also under stress--nerves!
