 "Always great weather and a flat course overall!" (about: 2001)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 The starting location was new at the AA arena which made it a little confusing w/ some roads to access the complex being closed. My major complaint was that they didn't have any organization at the beginning to allow runners to line-up with their pace...so you have a lot of slow runners/walkers mixed in with the faster runners. This is only a problem for the 1st mile, then things are all cleared up. The chips where a great improvement and the neighborhoods are 2nd only to the Chicago Marathon experience. | |

 "Nice Course, Average Organization" (about: 2001)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 3 I ran the 2001 version of the White Rock marathon hoping for good weather after running a marathon in very hot weather in October. I was not disappointed. The weather was perfect. The starting temperature was 35° degrees, clear skies, low humidity. The temperature when I finished was around 50°. The course was great going through some some nice neighborhoods at the beginning. The ten miles around the lakes did seem a little long. There is a continuous incline from Mile 19-21 which zapped my energy, but overall the course was not too difficult. The organization at the beginning of the race was substandard. Despite the fact that there was a new arena at the start, runners were not allowed in to get warm. It was 35° outside. We were able to sneak in with the late registrants. The people in the arena were very rude. The post-race activities were nothing to write home about either. Despite these inconveniences, I thoroughly enjoyed running the race. | |

 "Terrible course last two miles" (about: 2001)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 2 FANS: 2 It was my fifth Dallas marathon.The finish line at American Airlines Building was a big mistake. Please change it to the previous one. The after-race breakfest was very poor in quality and the place very uncomfortable. Come back to 1990's course, finish line and organization. Congratulations for the chip! | |

 "It was a pleasure." (about: 2001)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 What a nice course! It was relatively flat overall, and besides circling White Rock Lake, ran through interesting and pretty neighborhoods, (read: no industrial areas!). The crowds were a bit sparse, but were spread over the whole course and very enthusiastic. I can't possibly complain. There were lots of water stations. I also saw several porta-potties spread through the course. The only problem I had was the finish, which was a bit confusing. There was no clear direction to lead confused runners from the immediate recovery area to the American Airlines Center where the food, massage, water, etc. was located. I got lost! Once I found it, everything was there, and in quantity. The marathon has just changed directors, and they are in the process of tweaking the race into shape. I gotta cut them some slack. They did a nice job, I expect it will be even better next year. This is a good marathon. I think I will likely run it again sometime. | |

"Pre/Post Marathon accommodations" (about: 2001)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 4 This was my first marathon and I enjoyed it immensely. The course was not-to-tough, yet the 'Dolly Parton Hills' left a brief sting in my calves. The crowd was fairly thin and quiet, but wearing the 'first-timer blue bib' gave them and me a little motivation. The only negative was the American Airlines Center. All of the amenities were on the inside(i.e. registration, bathrooms, snacks/drinks, massages, etc.) yet they didn't want to let anyone in???? They booted us out in the morning and they wouldn't let us in after the race. I had to sneak in to get a massage while my running partner and my family were forced to wait outside. We were told that the arena had scheduled another event that evening and they were trying to evacuate everyone to start cleaning up. There was another 1000 people still on the course!!! | |

"Wonderful Marathon on a Beautiful Day" (about: 2001)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 5 This was my first marathon, so I have nothing to compare it against, but I would be very surprised to find a more beautiful course or more energetic spectators. I was a little dissappointed in the organization. It seemed that I had to seek out organizers instead of them giving clear cut instruction. A little nerve racking for a first timer. I will be back. "Great course, pretty neighborhoods, a few hills" (about: 2001)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 5 First, the spectators were great. Outstanding support from the volunteers and the Dallas police department. I did feel the love. Thank you, Thank you and Thank you again! Second, the course was just right, a couple of hills, but a nice gradual downhill on the last six miles. Finally, I have to complain about the organization. They let last minute packet pickup people go into the American Airlines center and use the nice bathrooms but not the others (what's up with that). I am a first-time marathoner, they managed to lose my application (although they had $120.00 out of my pocket), no one responded to my phone call or first email. The gentleman at the help desk was indifferent. No apologies given (I really felt the love). They were out of medals when I came in (I just want to be loved, is that so wrong). The crowning touch was that I found my name under the male finishers and I think I look like a woman. | |

"A solid marathon experience" (General Comments)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 4 This is my third White Rock run. This years course though new, is still is a good run. Only one major hill. Generally good crowds though sparse in some places. Aide stations are a real plus. The new site at the AA Center was a big disappointment. It was too crowded. I think most of the problems will be corrected by next year but it did take away from what was a great marathon experience. If you can't afford to fly to Hawaii this is a good alternative! | |

"Good time and a 'good time'" (about: 2001)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 This was my second marathon. (The first was in Dublin/2000. Weather was WAY better, if anyone remembers Dublin 2K!) Took over an hour off my PR and nearly beat 4 hrs. Nice flat, very scenic course. The neighborhoods on the way out of town were very friendly. Lots of signs and smiles. The water stops and cheering points around the lake were great, but I wish they'd had those Maverick cheerleaders closer to the start so I could appreciate better. |
