 "Great first marathon or PR marathon" (General Comments)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 Wonderful fast course! Nice variety of neighborhoods and very flat. Also a nice size; not too many runners, or too few. Plenty of aid stations with PowerGel at mile 18ish (don't remember exactly). Great for qualifying or running a PR as well as for beginners. I will definitely run it again. | |

 "Great First Marathon!!" (about: 2001)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 2 Columbus was my first marathon and it was awesome. Not too crowded, and at times a bit sparse, but overall the course was beautiful and FLAT. I didn't notice any of the hills. It was nice that it was so small because my friends and family were able to meet me at many different locations. Biggest concern: 20 minute bathroom wait before the race and for the first 6 miles or so there was a five minute wait at each port-a-potty. Overall a wonderful experience. | |

 "Very good course, well run marathon" (General Comments)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 3 If you want a fast course with cool weather, but not a huge marathon, this is a good choice. For those who dislike the mega-sized Chicago marathon, but want a similarly fast course, choose Columbus. I've run it twice, and I highly recommend it. Spectators can be sparse in parts of the race, but I don't think there were long stretches without a soul. Plenty of food afterward, decent expo and pasta dinner prior. | |

"A solid marathon for everyone" (about: 2000)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 I've run Columbus twice and will run it again. It's well organized, the expo is a good size, and the course has only some minor elevation changes. The field isn't too large and I hope it stays that way. The pace group I ran with was WONDERFUL--they were really organized. The spectators were out for most of the course, and it went through a variety of neighborhoods. The weather was good in 2000 (40s to start). I would recommend this race for beginners or experienced runners. You can get a PR here. | |

"Good Race, Good Course, Lot of Construction" (about: 2000)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 I really liked this years marathon. I thought that there was a lot of new things since I ran it in 1995. Course Entertainment and Neighborhood Parties were good which helped the crowd support. I thought that the organizers did a wonderful job considering that the finish line was a total construction area. Can't wait to see what they can do next year when all the construction is done. The course was nice and flat and it was a PR for me! | |

"Good race, good course, not too expensive" (about: 2000)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 I found the race very nice, not too big but big enough to find people to run with. Unlike a previous poster, I registered early, stayed in a hotel at the starting line and only paid $110. In addition, I ordered 3 pictures and only paid $20. Good organization, but not too much crowd support. | |

"Enjoyable race, but very expensive." (about: 2000)
COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 3 Although the actual Columbus Marathon was nice, all things must be considered. With $75 late registration, $135 (+ $21 tax) host hotel and $42 photos, for a total of $273, this was the most expensive marathon that I have ever been to. With this in mind, I would not recommend that anyone make a special trip to Columbus to run in this race. It simply is not worth the price. The host hotel even wanted an additional $55 for a late check-out! On the other hand, the volunteers were terrific and the meal at the finish was just right for me. An unlimited supply of bananas, non-fat yogurt and bagels were available even for the final finishers. The course was flat, but not very memorable. | |

"Great Course + Great Support = Great Time" (General Comments)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 The course was a great sampling of what Columbus has to offer. Starting downtown, going through Germanvillage, Ohio State Campus and then finishing back downtown. Fan support was great throughout the course, it really keeps you going. The overall experience was teriffic and I highly recommend it for marathoners of all abilities. The race is going to be one week earlier in 2001. This should make for even nicer weather. | |

"In some ways better than 98, in some ways worse." (General Comments)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 Not sure how I feel about the new course. Crowd support was better this year. More music would be nice though. Packet pick up was easy. Clocks were not as good this year. In 98, clocks gave time, pace, and estimated completion time (great for us older folks who have trouble seeing watches) : this year they only gave time, and one not even that. | |

"Well-Run, Not-Too-Huge Event That Highlights City" (General Comments)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 (Ran it in '96, before course changes). As 'Champaign' says, be prepared for varied temps (30-60+ F) on race day. If possible, pick up packet on Friday to avoid crowds. (I was able to talk with Galloway for 5 minutes.) Course provides nice tour of city, particularly Ohio State campus and old German settlement w/scenic brick buildings. Don't know if Elvis impersonator still shows up, but he was needed relief in the Bexley area. This race has a relay, so don't be discouraged if people blow by you in the latter stages. Be prepared for OSU colors and fight song... if you want attention, dress yourself likewise or in Univ. of Michigan colors and logos. |
