"The Best Experience!!" (about: 2000)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 5

It was such an awesome experience! The people and Marines were so motivating that I finished it in a better time than I ever expected! It is a great first marathon for anyone who is starting out. I will try and do it for many years to come.

"Better than Boston!!!!!" (General Comments)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 5

I had the pleasure of running this marathon each year from 1991-1994. Even in the torrential downpour of 1994, the Marines never skipped a beat, and the service was absolutely the BEST!
In comparison, Boston treats you nicely IF you are a world-class runner. However, if you are just an average marathoner, you get the 'back of the bus' treatment.
The Marine Corps Marathon treats everyone with respect, regardless of what sort of runner you happen to be. Maybe the difference is in the fact that there is no money involved here, making this the world's largest amateur marathon.
So, if you are looking for a fun race and a lot of great experiences, forget Boston. Go to Washington, DC, for the time of your running life!

I have completed two marathons now and both were Marine Corps!! The race, course, and people are fantastic! Very well organized race! The Marines and the crowd helped me to stay motivated throughout the race!!!! A must do for your first marathon!

"A great race to run! A must do!" (about: 2000)

This is my sixth marathon and second Marine Corps. The support is great along the course and the armed services personnel are the most helpful and polite I have ever met. This years start was much better than the prior. The wave got me to the start and on pace within a minute as opposed to six the prior year. For anyone that wants to run a fun and exciting marathon this is the one. The only two small changes I would recommend is putting water on the 14th street bridge and changing the sports drink. I personally can not stand the taste and think gatorade the better choice. Thanks for a great time!

"The course made my chest swell with pride" (about: 2000)

My sixth marathon...3 have been Marine Corps Marathons. Ran LA, Chicago, and New Orleans as well. Loved how my Marines took care of everyone. Motivation of spectators was awesome. Still get a charge with the 2nd Lieutenants draping my medal at the finish. The monuments--breathtaking. But I have to agree with many runners...the 14th Street 'stretch' needs water! Could have done without the political campaigning along the way! And bagels--great...but again, water please! More music please! And definitely too congested at the finish! Marines definitely have what it takes to gain control--let's see the LOI (Letter of Instruction-Marine talk) for the finish line include some bullhorns, roped off areas and some 0311s (COMBAT MARINES) posted 'on-guard.'Otherwise, exceptional!!!

SEMPER FIDELIS!

"First time marathon" (about: 2000)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 5

This was my 1st marathon , and I had a wonderful time doing it. The thrill of crossing the finish line and being able to say 'I did it' was one of the most exciting experiences that you could ever imagine. I would highy recommend the 'Marine Corps Marathon ' for your first one.

"Great race for first timers such as me!" (about: 2000)

It was my very first marathon, something I've wanted to train for and do since my heart attack in 1992. The Marines were great, especially at the end when I couldn't even stand for my medal. They literally held me up until the water and fruit arrived. The Galloway pacers made sure I finished at close to my projected (I was only off by 6 minutes)time, tired but not hurt. I'll do it again..but, next time, how about some water at the 14th street bridge?

It was exciting to run the MCM 2000. There were so many people just cheering everyone on......it has a culture of support all it's own. If you want to run a marathon, this is the one!! Fairly flat course, great organization, lots of support. Semper Fi!

"What a Blast!!" (about: 2000)

I ran it for the first time this year(4:14), after working the medical tents previously. What an excellent atmosphere, what a rush.. I can't wait to do it again. This time I'll be ready for the 14th St. Bridge.
