"Most scenic course" (about: 2011)

I couldn't get Saturday off work, so I drove overnight from the Pittsburgh area. I got there about 6:30 a.m. and went straight to the tent where packet pick-up was held. It went smoothly, although one down side was that there were no safety pins were inside the packet. I had to ask another runner to see if there were pins inside. And there they were, right on the table. Maybe I was a bit tired from lack of sleep, but no volunteer people mentioned that pins were not in the bag.

About actual race, though, I thought it went very well. They picked the most scenic route i've ever run.

Down side of this race was that there were too many cars. I, sort of, expected the traffic to be blocked at least first five miles where the packs of runners are still too big. When I saw two giant busses come by, I thought it wasn't very safe.

But overall, I loved it and I will come back next year. I'm hoping that race organizer will make some changes for next year's race based on this feedback.

"Great Inaugural Race" (about: 2011)

This was the first year for this race and for a small town marathon, it was extremely well run. Going in I was concerned with three things. 1) The hills 2) The weather; 3) The organization of an inaugural marathon.

The weather this year was perfect - overcast and about 52 degrees. The hills seemed rolling in the beginning and brutal in the middle. I guess I didn't pay attention to how much downhill running we did early on because on the way back, the hills from 22-25 were definitely tough. Organization was great. School busses took us from remote sites to the staging area and then back again afterwards. Water and gatorade were available every two miles as advertised. If you do sign up make sure to check out the Facebook page as it seems most up-to-date communication was posted here as opposed to the race website.

"Beautiful and challenging" (about: 2011)

I ran in the Gettysburg Marathon today. It was a beautiful, but difficult course. There were few spectators, but I like small-town marathons, so it was perfect for me. Overall, it was a simple race (no race expo) with an affordable price tag... it reminded me of races from 15 years ago!
