Perfect Weather. Great support.

The course isnt as boring as some say, I've run worse .... Hartford.

The first 11 miles are quite busy then the course really thins-out as the 1/2 heads to the finish.

If you have ran a R&R marathon in the past, you won't be disappointed. My points:

+ Everything is very expensive from the merch to the race entry.

+ Expo is top notch as usual

+ On course organization is great. Plenty of fluids/course well marked/lots of medical support

+ Course is BORING! Very, very disappointed in the lack of creativity or variety. This is enough to stay away

+ Bands were so so and after awhile I stopped noticing them.

+ Start line/finish area was a bit disorganized. No clear way to figure out where bag drop off was.

I've ran 20+ marathons and needed Colorado. Denver is awesome but this marathon is nothing special. I bet there are better ones in Colorado for cheaper.

As always, another greatly managed race. I've several RNR races and all have been a delight. I highly recommend this race to anyone in the Denver area.

This was my first big race so I have little in the way of scale for comparison. I was impressed at the DPD having an officer at each intersection. There were tons of fans and aid stations easy to navigate. The downtown part of the course was congested and found myself jockying for position and doing a lot of weaving, mostly my fault for starting too far back in a slower corral. Expo was good and the post race events and support was good.

I had to make a special trip to the expo just to get my bib and chip because I had to work the day before the race and the expo wasn't open late enough for me to get there after work. The event is clearly structured in order to be a good 'sell' to the local business, i.e. generating travel revenue, and I guess I'm ok with that. But there should be an option for packet pickup on race day, I mean I only live an hour away! The commercialism gets a little old, lots of products being put in your face, etc.

I have run all 3 Denver R&R marathons & I must say they keep getting better! Better organization, better expo & better course. Thanks for not cutting the bananas!

"Typical Rock and Roll Horrible course" (about: 2011)

Typical Rock and Roll (this is my 3rd R&R and my last) course 5 hairpin turns. Once the marathon course breaks away from the 1/2 marathoners it is a boring run one way run the other way course. I can see why they waited to anounce the course.

About half the bands were playing when I went by (maybe just unlucky).

For the money they charge it is a joke.

Denver great city, with great places to eat and reasonable priced hotels that are close to start finish line and expo. It is to bad the marathon does not match the cities standards.

EXPO well run but R&R $30 short sleeve cotton tshirts were a rip off. Hopefully no one purchased any.

Medal very nice, tshirt black short sleeve.

As far as the spectators there were very few along the course, it is a typical R&R corporate event. You can certainly tell the difference between a home grown or running club marathon and a R&R corporate. That is it just is not supported by the city.
This is my 18th marathon and quite frankly it was one of thw worst. I can see why up to now there is only one comment here (the marathon was a month ago). It is due to the R&R marathon is corparate event that has very little if any passion

Dont throw you money away on this one, to many great marathons to get traped in the R&R marketing machine.

Sorry to be so negative but thought you should know.

"An OK race, but nothing spectacular" (about: 2011)

The expo was nice, with lots of great freebies, but parking was expensive unless you managed to find a meter close by. I was disappointed that all of the marathon merchandise (including our tech shirt) said marathon and 1/2 marathon. When I'm putting in the 26.2 miles, I prefer to have a marathon only shirt.
There were plenty of porta potties scattered around, which was nice. The bag drop off was a bit confusing and where they had it situated (right next to a big truck) made it hard to form lines. There was a staggered wave start which made it easy to get up to pace right away, but I think I still would have preferred that the 1/2 marathoners started seperately, as the race was pretty crowded for the first several miles. The only photos I found of myself were from the finish, probably because of the congestion. We ran over many timing mats along the way, but were only given a final chip time in the results. I feel like we were nickled and dimed by RnR: If you wanted athelete tracking (free in all my other races), you had to pay. If you want to see how you raced compared to others on an interactive map,(I guess that's what the timing mats were used for), just join our nice service for $9.95 a year! It was like RnR was taken over by an airline. It would have been nice to have cytomax at every water stop, rather than every other one. I must have missed a lot of the bands, because I didn't notice many once the 1/2 marathoners split off. I ran this race in 2009 before RnR and like the new course much better. There is less circling and winding through the parks. The crowds were awesome, even though the day was quite cold to be standing out there. The pace groups were fantastic. The medals are heavy and nice, and we did get a different medal for the full marathon. The food selection was sparse, but the bagels were good. I couldn't stomach the burrito. I didn't stay around for the post race concert, it was too cold. It took quite awhile to wind back to the baggage check to get my warm clothes, so it was great to get the space blanket. Overall it was a good race, but I think RnR could put in a little more effort.

The pick up for the race packet was fantastic. Very fast. The fitness expo was a bit crowded mostly due to the exhibits being too close together.

Course was good, but you spend an inordinate amount of time just in the parks. I would have preferred to see a bit more of the city than do a lap around Wash. Park, which I've done a million times before.

Biggest disappointment is that my rfid tag didn't time. It registered my start and they have a picture of me at the end. You'll just have to take my word that I hit the turnaround... Anyway, I went off my GPS. Still... a bit of a bummer. Makes me wonder how many others didn't get timed.

"Good not Great" (about: 2011)

6-10 previous marathons | 1 Rock N Roll Denver Marathon
COURSE: 3  ORGANIZATION: 2  FANS: 3

The course was good, with marathoners running through a couple of great parks. I have two major complaints though... the course started with marathoners and half marathoners mixed and because I'm a 5+ hour marathoner, I started with half marathoners who were walking. I spent the first half of my race trying to pass walkers which added to my time. I am a firm believer that if you plan to walk a race, you need to start at the back. I finished in 5:45 and two half-marathoners sprinted past me at the finish. They were suppose to cut the half-marathoners off at 4 hours. These two ladies obviously had strolled through the whole course and sprinted at the finish which ruined my finisher photo even though I had struggled through the full 26.2. It was incredibly disappointing. My second complaint was that there weren't nearly enough water/cytomax stops, but more importantly, only a few stops actually had cytomax. Most stops, even those toward the end of the course only had water and that's when you need a sport drink the most. It was very disappointing.

"Course was lacking!" (about: 2011)

4-5 previous marathons | 1 Rock N Roll Denver Marathon
COURSE: 2  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 3

I ran this marathon (my first rock n' roll) expecting to see the best parts of the city of Denver, but was disappointed. At one point all I could see were runners zig-zagging through a park over and over and over. I thought the bands were sparse and weren't as good as the bands in my home town marathon in Kansas City. The wave start was confusing for many runners who were running with the pace team as they were not assigned to the same corral as their pacer. Also, the mile markers were way off...any one with a garmin was complaining about that. The pros: the expo, the post race festival (1 free beer!) and the shirt was high quality and the design was good.
